Prof.Stephen Hawking’s words in Paralympic 2012 opening ceremony

Screen shot of Prof.Stephen Hawking at London Paralympics 2012
(29Aug2012)

I have always been an admirer of Professor Stephen Hawking! Why wouldn’t I be, for (a) I am a fellow Physicist and have that in common with him, and (b) I once met him in the streets of Cambridge, during my University days on a trip over there.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games  earlier today. But the bits I saw were brilliant, emotive and inspiring. ..And here are the closing words by Stephen Hawking, who speaks about our differences, what’s important, and aspirations.

“The Paralympic Game is also about transforming the perceptions of the World. We are all different. There is no such thing as a standard or run of the mill human being – but we share the same spirit. What is important is that we have the ability to create. This creativity can take many form – from physical achievements to theoretical physics. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at.  The game provides an opportunity for athletes to excel, to stretch themselves and become outstanding in their fields. So let us begin to celebrate excellence, friendship and respect. Good luck to you all.”

-Proff.Stephen Hawking  (29Aug2012, London).

Interesting how he plays with words like `physical’ and `physics’.  Scientists strive to find `standard models’ or theories, to explain many things, and here is a Scientist who says that there are no such things as a `standard human’.  Being a disabled person (who was originally given 2 years to live but has lived many times that limit so far), Professor Hawking personally knows what it is to physically struggle, when he talks about opportunity to stretch and excel.

Olympic 2012 Bashing: Negative magic by Hypocrites!

No sooner had the London Olympics 2012 opening ceremony at Stratford (East London) finished – or even long before it even finished – social network sites were filling up with posts from amazed admirers, and- I am extremely disappointed to say- negative, whining, hypocritical pictures and posts by some others!

Everyone  is entitled to their views and opinions. So yes, I do understand that some people will vent their negative views. But those of you who do so- can you at least wait till the Opening Ceremony has concluded, before putting out your views??!

I have seen in Social networks sits like facebook, people posting sarcastic, negative and critical posts. I have seen how people seem to have take screen-shots of the ceremony ..and added various negative comments, their own ill-devised campaigns and started circulating those. And I have seen how others take it on and share it.

It’s obvious that the people who would have paid their ticket to get to the Opening Ceremony will in no way have taken photos and edited it all on their tech-phones and blasted them out into the internet. I imagine most people who went there would have been supporters. So the ones who have been putting those graphics out must be those who caught it on TV coverage… And if so, here’s a message to those: You are breaching copyright and brand rules – Be Warned!  Create your own graphics, or use photos you have created – for these negative Olympic Bashing campaigns – or just don’t!!

Personally, I was not all that bothered some months ago – and I have heard all the debates and arguments – about how much it’s costing us tax payers, how it’s only serving the elite and the rich, how it’s commercial, how it’s not really for the people, how it’s throwing chaos and inconveniences at the people who live in London.. etc etc.

Yes, I know it’s cost 27million pounds for the ceremonies etc. Is that such a big deal for an International event that’s bringing together over 200 countries in a friendly competition?  More Millions have been spent on far less important football matches – some of which have served none but companies that own them! More millions have been spent on making films – which have been nothing but 90 minutes of entertainment and don;t serve the world in such ways that the Olympic does. So if you are going to compare and criticise, do it in context, and do it fairly!!

Talking of entertainment – yes I watched the 90 minutes of the Opening performance show last night live on Tv, and was thoroughly entertained by it. I marveled at the theatrics, constructions, the incredible dance choreography involving thousands, the stage management that must have gone into it, the technical coordination and skills involved and so on. It may be costing 27million pounds and ran for 90 minutes – but I put it to you again.. there have been films made that have been that long which have cost 5 times as much, and have had not even a fifth of the significance or relevance on a world arena!

And those who criticize the skills and talents: here’s a question I ask-  Have you ever made a 2 minute movie using your digital camera, tried editing that with a few special effects and shared that on social networks? Have you ever organised a small party for 200 people? Have you tried doing an art work that is the size of a wall perhaps? Have you tried composing music?   Have you tried creating something with real hard work and passion..and then put it out to the world, and await the possibility of being accepted  by the friends or harshly rejected?  If you have not – then you will have no idea what it takes to create anything of the size and scale of such a thing as the  Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012. And that being the case, you are just being an armchair critique. Which in my book is utterly self indulgent, childish and rather pathetic of you!

Context and perspective, please!

Assuming that all those cons and arguments hold water- what can we do?  The Olympics 2012 are here, in our doorstep.  The Olympics stated off decades ago with high ideals in mind – as a uniting force and to celebrate the skills of the human ability and it’s potential for physical excellence. Even if some of you think modern Olympics are not doing that – and only a day has gone by so you can;t judge it as such- why put negativity into the Global human Collective?

Each one of us has the power to add something positive – here and now – every post we do on the internet that gets seen by a hundred of others is a flame that we each hold..   So rather than pass on a black flame of shadows and strife, why not say something good, and pass that on?  Worse, why take images of something that can be used positively and tarnish it’s energy by using it negatively?     Whatever is happening in those stadiums may be beyond our individual influence at this stage- but what we each put out into the internet IS within or power..and we can use that power for good..

The Olympics is like a Child – it’s born now. Rather than look at what’s wrong, what disabilities it may have, I say- nurture it, and support it in some way energetically and it may well grow up to be a good human being – symbolically speaking!

If you are a practicing magician or a pagan or a spiritual being- hold a flame of hope in your hearts now, and that may actually do good (if you believe that you have power and that you can change the world – that is).

Bewitching London: Brooms, Pentagrams & Olympic Torches

On Saturday 21st July 2012, the Olympic Torch came to London! That was 3-4 days ago.

Since then it’s been carried by hundreds of individuals in a relay, along a clockwise direction around London, starting from the East, heading south, west, and eventually back to East part of London by 26th July.  And on Friday 27th July, it will be transported (not in a relay but by vehicles) to furthest west point of London- to Hampton Court, and be carried on the Queen’s Jubilee barge..by river Thames, to Tower Bridge.. before being taken to the Olympic Stadium for official launch ceremony!

This whole journey of of high esoteric interest to me.

Way back in 2005, being a practitioner of Magic & Wicca, I had the idea of doing a `London-Circle’ magically. (If others had done it before then, I didn’t know about it).  I had been interested in Earth-Magic -working with the land directly. So with the help of my partner April, and my friend Reggie, I set off to do a series of magical `circles’ around London.

We did the following on 3 separate occasions:

  1. Take a home made Witche’s Broom, in the Circle Line (Tube network) and sat in it for a whole circuit around London.  That took us about 90 minutes. It was our way of `sweeping London’ with a magic broom! Once completed, we took it straight to a PF London open ritual (Yule ritual, in early December).
  2. Trace the shape of a pentagram over London, by travelling (in public transport) from point to point, as if we were drawing a pentagram.  This was easier said than done. For example, imagine travelling by shortest tube possible, from Greenwich (South-East point) to Wembley (North-west point) and so on. We started in a woods in the North London, around 10am and ended the pentagram by about 11pm that night! That was just April & me – just travelling (and having short lunch and evening meal breaks in local cafe/ pub).
  3. Finally, we got in a car, lit a consecrated candle, and took it for a drive around the whole of the M25 – starting from the Southern point, clockwise, back to the South. And at the quarter points, we got out of the car to get on the road side, and `call a quarter’ (as Pagans do in a magic circle).  It was a tough act towards the end..  with the large pillar candle so full of melted liquid wax, that every shake of the car threatened to flood the candle-flame out with liquid wax. But we made it. This was done after traffic time in the evening an took about 3+ hours.  It was actually New year’s eve, and the idea was to then take the candle (still lit) to Trafalgar square/ Thames side for the evening fire works/ celebrations. However, we gave that idea up, and took the incense sticks we had been burning, to central London.

Earlier today, I watched the Torchbearers take it past my local area – around 2.15pm along the streets of Sutton.  And the recent taking of the Olympic Torch around London in a clockwise direction reminded me of the old magical works I had done back in December of 2005.

It is interesting, that the final relay of the Olympic Torch takes it along the river Thames. A flame on the water – opposite elements! The flame arrived n London on the last day of Sun in Cancer (astrological water sign and home of the Moon), and is now gong through London as the Sun travels through the first third section of Leo – a fire sign and home of the Sun! So the flame is in it’s astrological element now.

It is as if – intentionally or unintentionally, London is being consecrated by the flame, and a circle is being cast around it!  Despite all the commercialism of the Olympics, it is nevertheless no ordinary flame. It is one lit by a Priestess of Apollo temple in Greece!  So there was already magic to begin with!  I believe this will change London- not just the economical or political landscapes as everyone expects, predicts and hopes – but on a much deeper magical and spiritual level. When everything else has faded away, the magic will remain – below the surface of the `London Collective’ (and Tamesa!)

Personally, am planning a few magical workings of my own..  starting with a special Flame watch social on 27th July in the morning, followed by a bit of magical working nearby..
