The triple Eclipse set is over, so is the 3rd phase of the Uranus-square-Pluto (4 more to go between now and 2015!).. so is everything going to be okay now?

Well, the good thing about cycles…of planets circling around the Sun .. is that whatever challenging astrological transits that are going on will clear up, as planets move on..and they will form much more harmonious and helpful aspects. The bad thing – cycles have a way of repeating! Not quite in the same way, but they do!

Here’s what’s going on at the moment with the Planets — their movements through signs and how it may affect those signs!

Mercury effect on Gemini, Cancer & Virgo

Mercury moved into Cancer on 31st May – so Gemini’s & Virgo’s  will feel a shift now, perhaps even getting sensitive. But along with it may come intuition and maternal or nurturing instincts (Cancerian qualities).  (Gemini’s have had mercury in their own sign for a month..  but that huge positive boost now reduces..and hopefully Gemini’s made use of it and stocked up!).

Cancerians will get the influence of Mercury – so they may start to (already) feel their  mental faculties sharpening up – new agreements or contracts may surface.. as will lines of communication, commerce and short distance travel.

Mercury retrograde – warning for all- This starts on 27th June and goes on till 21st July..   So during that we all should take extra care- Back up hard drives, clarify agreements and don’t fuel arguments or mis-communications..  (during that time!)   During that time, Cancerians may experience those kind of effects more…so do watch out for depressive thoughts. Remember – Cycles!  It will turn upwards afterwards!

Venus effect on Cancer

Few days ago (3rd June), Venus also changed signs..  going from Gemini and into Cancer! Now Venus is a `watery’ planet and as it enters Cancer ( a water sign) this is a rather harmonious merger of their energies. Cancerians are going to get the benefits of Venus in their sign till 28th June..   What does Venus bring? Come on – do I have to spell it out? Okay I will –  Possibilities of romantic fulfillment, some additional wealth or money, brilliant social life.. that sort of thing 🙂

Of course Libras & Taureans – ruled by Venus are going to get the energies of Cancer rubbing on them!

Jupiter effect on Cancer

On 26th June, after a year of being in Gemini (and giving Geminis a lot of new landscapes, opportunities, wisdom, expansions and such) ..jovial Jupiter leaves Gemini…and enters the sign of Cancer!   And it will stay there for a year now!   So this is a big shift for Cancerians.. coming up at the end of June..   And all those qualities I just mentioned are going to be at the doorstep of Cancerians..      Yes, it’s going to be one brilliant month for Cancerians…that  will start off a brilliant expansive year for them!

And whatever House position in your chart falls in the sign of Cancer is going to light up for a year..  (it will be one of the 12 house positions…  ruling Identity, Finances, career, work, romance, relationship etc..)

Mars effect on Gemini’s

Well, if all that `Jupiter is leaving, Venus is leaving, Mercury has left’  news is making Gemini’s rather down..  you shouldn’t!  Mars entered Gemini at the beginning of June..and will be there till 13th July’13.  Mars as you know brings assertive firey energy .. to get things done! In this case, it may also bring male energy in to the lives of some Gemini’s …in one form or another…perhaps with it some natural sexual urges! 😉 Sudden developments are likely  when Mars in Gemini sextiles Uranus (I’ll say more about transits in another blog. So tune in again next week ).

Neptune retrograde – affecting Pisceans

On 7th June’13, Neptune, currently transiting through the sign of Pisces (Neptune rules that sign) starts to go retrograde..and will do so for a few months to come (till 14th November’13).   This is not going to be an easy 5 months for Pisceans. At about the same time, factors that have the Neptune rulership in the world (oil, the human dreams & collectives, escapism tendencies, secret addictions ) are going to get that focus!

Saturn continues to be retrograding through Scorpio.

So Scorpios should be focusing on the lessons in life..  or the Saturnian task master will be making your lives hard indeed. Capricorns ..ruled by Saturn will be continuing to have a trying time..  that is actually working to go deep and transform some underlying layers of their personalities, behaviours, and experiences. Stay with it.. This hard phase will be over by mid-July  (Saturn goes direct on 8th July 2013)!

That’s about it for this blog.

I’ll sit down to do my usual  `highlighting the specific dates & signs’ for the actual transits (good/ bad stuff) in a blog next time..:-)

Here’s a thing – of you are worried about what’s been going on or what’s about to go on..  astrologically, feel free to contact me..  with any questions you may have…and I’ll see if I can shed some astro-light on your situation.

Stellar Blessings

Planetary transits through Aries – 12th March to 3rd May 2013

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Here’s a quick look at the various planets that are transiting or about to transit through the sign of Aries.  All the planets are always travelling – some slowly, some quite speedily- through the signs.. So this is nothing unusual. Because planets are in fact orbiting around the Sun, from our visual point of view, where ever the Sun tends to go, we see most of the inner planets going too. So when the Sun enters the Sign of Aries, we can expect that either in front or later, the others – Mars, Mercury, Venus – will follow. It so happens, that Uranus is already transiting through Aries..

Horoscope: Planets Through Aries March-May 2013

Horoscope: Planets Through Aries March-May 2013

As the planets transit through Aries, they continue to form aspects with other planets which are in other parts of the sky, and also with one another. It’s like a bunch of influential people travelling together on a tour bus around the country – lot of wheeling and dealing and conversations between them, but also once in a while each of them is going to make calls or contact with their networks outside – and sometimes they hear good things, and other times they get awkward phone calls and have to still deal with issues elsewhere.

Dates of when planets enter and leave Aries

Mars entered Aries on 12th March, and will leave by 20th April (~5 weeks stay).

Sun enters Aries on 20th March and will leave by 20th April (1 month stay).

Venus enters Aries on 22nd March, and will leave by 14th April (3 weeks stay).

Mercury enters Aries on 14th April, and will leave on 2nd May.  (2 weeks stay).

I’ve tabled the transits of these planets and grouped them by the planet that’s passing through Aries, and the interactions (aspects) it’s making with others.   In the 2nd table, I show the same interactions, but in date order..

I’ve given this much importance to Aries – because it’s the first sign of the zodiac, and heralds new initiatives, and also we are just coming into the Time of Aries (as the Sun starts to pass through Aries …for a month).   If time permits, I hope to do the same every month, for each of the signs..(Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and so on..)

Do check THIS specific blog, as I will visit it regularly and be adding more information on each major aspect..(rather than do new posts).

Astrology basics

Chart for Spring Equinox 2013

Retrograde-Free period ends (next one in 3 years!)

Venus trine & transitAt any one time, our observation will show planets to be either `moving direct’ or `moving backwards’ – the Retrograde motion. (This is explained in my earlier blog. Read it here).

From  30th January  we have had a clear  2+ weeks, where no planets in Solar system were retrograding. This period has now ended, with Saturn already beginning to retrograde in the sign of Scorpio today (19th Feb’13).  And in a few days, on 23rd Feb’13, Mercury will begin its retrograde in the sign of Pisces.

The next time we will get a clear retrograde-Free period (where all the planets in our Solar system are going direct) will occur in almost 3 years time.

Here are the dates for future Retrograde-Free durations.

30 Jan – 17 Feb 2013  (17 days) – Just ended!

26 Dec’15 – 4Jan’16 (10 days).

8 Jan –  5 Feb 2017 (27 days)

2 Jan -7 March 2018 (2 months!)

5 Jan – 4 March 2019 (2 months!)

Now some people may think that `their planet’ won’t be retrograding all the time and so they won’t be having such a long wait. However, bear in mind that when a personal astrological chart is erected and current positions of planets are placed on that, each planet is going to be in an important house-position of a person’s chart (even if a particular planet is not their ruling planet!). So when ever one goes retrograde in a house position (say 5th house – of romance, creativity..  2nd house of finances etc) …that area of your life will be influenced in a challenging way (most of the time).

So effectively, for the next 3 years, without any exceptions, we are all going to be having challenging times…in one part of our life or another.

From time to Time, I’ll provide forecasts – difficult and easy days or periods to watch out for.

Sagittarians & Geminis take heed: Jupiter Retrograde starts (till 30th Jan’13)

If you are a Sagittarian or a Gemini, this is going to affect you the most!

Tomorrow, Thursday 4th October, around 13:17hrs gmt,  Jupiter – the biggest planet in the Solar System – begins its retrograde motion!

Jupiter arrived in the sign of Gemini on the 12th June’12, and has been imparting much of its jovial, expansive energies for all Geminians.  But as is normal for all planets every year, Jupiter now starts to go `backwards’ .

Retrograde (planetary backward motion)  explained

(an optical illusion of what we see from planet Earth, when we observe other planets. It’s a bit similar to being in a train and watching another train on the other track…both going forward, but at some point, if your train is going faster, then the other one looks like it’s going backwards. Well, that’s what retrograde motions are.   The planets are not really going backwards. It seems that way. Nevertheless, astrologically, this does influence the people!)

Jupiter’s retrograde duration

Jupiter begins its retrograde on 4th October, and will continue `going backwards’ till 30th January 2013.  That’s a good 4 months!!

For Gemini

This is going to affect Geminis, who will have to take stock of all the exuberant positive expansions they have been undertaking, and review some of the recent changes. It has been like starving for so long, and someone gave you the key to a fabulous kitchen. Gemini’s have been feasting …too fast too much may be.   So some of that may now be creating indigestion.  It’s time to slow down a bit, and deal with the challenges of indulgence. Don’t worry though, nothing difficult will arise..  you just have to slow and consolidate for the next 4 months.

For Sagittarians

Jupiter rules the jolly jovial zodiac sign of Sagittarius. So when Jupiter begins a retrograde emotion for the next 4 months, that is going to impact on the Archers – no escaping this!

When Jupiter was in the earthy sign of Taurus for a year or so (part of last year and till 12th June..earlier this year), Sagittarians have been (no doubt) feeling rather grounded, and `forced’ to deal with so many practical things. So when Jupiter entered the air sign of Gemini, it was literally like a breath of fresh air…time to throw away the heavy boots, and skip, bounce and run..or rather get into a frantic phase of wheeling & dealing, cooking enterprises & commerce, beginning to look at  distant horizons..

But now, after about 3+ mont,s it’s time to slow down a bit, and look at some missed side roads – that may well turn out to be leading to other horizons, or pick up things you’ve dropped along the way in your hurry to travel far and fast!

Mars, Mercury & Sun in sagittarius- coming to help

This does not have to be a difficult time for Sagittarians.   In a few days (7th Oct’12) firey planet Mars enters the sign of the Archer and stays till 16th Nov’12.  That’s new energy coming in…as well as initiatives.  And between 29th Oct-13th Oct (and 11th Dec-31st Dec) ..Mercury the cosmic messenger is also in this sign.   And of course, between 22 Nov- 21st Dec, the mighty Sun is coming for the annual power-boost for Sagittarians!

What’s ahead is a brilliant time…Start consolidating.. Mars, Mercury & Sun are coming to help!!

Eclipse Magic at Solar & Lunar Eclipses

Lunar Occultations of Jupiter

Disruptive aggression of Uranus-opposition-Mars (19July’12)

Chances are- you are already feeling the effects of this particular astrological aspect!   It’s probably come out of old brewing issues, but has exploded from the depths, to the conscious mind within the last few days..or even last 12 hours!

The opposition of Mars against Uranus is taking place in the early hours of tomorrow (19th July’12).  2:55hrs GMT to be exact (3:55hrs British summer time). Mars is a planet symbolising war, assertiveness, aggression, initiative of new ideas/ actions..  and rules the sign of Aries.  Uranus is one that rules Aquarius, and has the effect of creating humanitarians, innovations, freedom …but in its disruptive form, causes rebelliousness, overt eccentricity and possibly even terrorism! (humanitarian rebellious ideals gone too far!)

So a show-down between these two planets is not going to sit easy in anyone’s life!! Especially for Aries, Aquarians andLibrans.  Why Librans? Well, Mars is currently in the sign of Libra.  What’s actually (astrologically_) traumatising is the act that Uranus is in the sign of Aries..  the home of Mars. So from a Mars point of view, it’s as if you were out on a world tour (of the Zodiac) while you get a long term visitor staying in your home, and suddenly, they are having fights and arguments with you over distance – phone or e-mails or even through other mediums.   Ah, I almost forgot about Mercury – planet of communication …currently going retrograde! So, what ever miscommunications can happen…will happen. And that’s not good for people involved in aggressions and rebellions!

Feelings of violence can escalate – so would a sense of your own eccentricity and individualities.

This really is a difficult time..   My advise?   Try to step away from it all…just for 24 hours..  read a book, watch tv, write a blog or two :-p

Lunar Occultations of Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Mercury in 2012

Graphics showing Lunar Occultation of Jupiter

What’s an occultation?  Well, in astrological realms, it means the covering of a planet by the Moon!  Consider a Solar Eclipse – this is when the Sun is blocked by the Moon (as we view it from Earth).  A lunar Occultation of..say Jupiter, is when the planet Jupiter is blocked (eclipsed briefly) by the Moon!  Jupiter can be seen by the naked eye on a clear night, at certain months of the year, and sometimes the moon passes in front of it. .

Occultations occur for other planets in our Solar system too. Mars, Venus & Mercury are the other planets more likely to be occulted by the moon.

Up till May 2012, no such lunar occultations of any planets had taken place – except the Solar Eclipse on 20th May’12.

Then on 17th June, we have had a Jupiter occultation!   There are further Jupiter occultations in July, August, September, October, November (2 in this month), and December.  That’s quite an occurrence – at least once a month!

In addition, there are also 4 Occultations of Mercury,  1 Mars occultation and 1 Venus occultation.

Here’s a full list of all such planetary Occultations in 2012.

  • 17 June  -Jupiter
  • 15 July- Jupiter
  • 20 July – Mercury
  • 13 Aug – Venus
  • 11 Aug – Jupiter
  • 8 Sept- Jupiter
  • 19 Sept- Mars
  • 5 Oct- Jupiter
  • 17 Oct -Mercury
  • 2 Nov- Jupiter (1st)
  • 13 Nov – Solar Eclipse
  • 14 Nov – Mercury
  • 29 Nov – Jupiter  (2nd in Nov)
  • 12 Dec -Mercury
  • 26/12- Jupiter

Magical work at Occultations:

Well, to do any sort of spiritual or magical works at these events, we’d need to look at the symbology and associations of each planet involved, and compare them to the symbology of the moon.  Many of these occultations happen when the moon is not full..   but nevertheless, it is still about what sign an occultation is taking place (afects that sun-sign born people mainly), which planet is occulted (aftects the sun-signs ruled by that planet.. ie Jupiter rules Sagittarius), and working out intuitively which qualities and energies of the moon either amplify, filter, or temporarily block those qualities.  In my view, if its a growing moon that is occulting a planet, it will have the moon quality amplifying and beginning to over-take or over-shadow that planet’s own energies…and so on.

These can all be used very much like the works in Eclipse Magic (of the Sun and Moon). But effectively, we can think of these a `Eclipse of Jupiter, Eclipse of Mars, Eclipse of Venus or Eclipse of Moon.

I’ll be producing a supplementary booklet on working with planetary Occultations, to go with the Eclipse Magic Workbook (see blog entry).   soon. (will be available free to all those who purchase the Eclipse magic workbook from 13th July’12 onwards.  (The supplementary booklet will be sent by separate e-mail).
