So what is the `Equation of Reality’? Simply put (or mathematically put), it is…”r equals i-squared”.
Yes, it’s that blindingly obvious.. but I doubt (ritual) Magicians & Esoteric Practitioners ever looked at it that way.. Even Aleister Crowley spoke about magic as the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will”, but possibly didn’t look into the actual Science of why this is so! 🙂
So, the equation i-squared = r’ applies to imaginary numbers in mathematics.. (real number = imaginary number-squared). But for years I have looked at a magical interpretation behind it.. and I call the `Equation of Reality’. .. that imagination-squared creates reality!
Forget all those other definitions of magic… Squaring, or in this case, multiplying imagination by itself.. is the act that turns imagination into reality.. That act is what we call Magic! So the question is now simple ..(or hard, depending on how you look at it). What does it mean in everyday practical terms to `square imagination’? Because if we can `do’ that, then we are doing successful magic.. to manifest something tangible (real).
Well, Quantum Mechanical principles also start to come into play.. such as Observer Effect, Collapse of the Probability Wave function and so on.. (*more on those in another blog)..
For now, this explains the `WHY’ visualisation is so important in magical training.. And guess how that squaring takes place? Visualisation is just one variable.. and emotive visualisation ..is the act of multiplying one imagination (visual) with another (simulated-feelings). There you have it.. a (pseudo) science-based idea of the basis of magical manifestation!
Do feel free to leave any respectful and intelligent comments below for furthering this topic…
ps. For my next Esoteric revelation, the engine we call `Magic Circle’ – the Why’s of it all, and where and how we get those good ol’ gods and goddesses inside it.. especially if we have sealed it so tight..in the first place!)
Almost 2 decades ago, when I ventured slowly into the world of western pagans, Witches, wiccans and wizards.. little did I know that they are as human and fallible ..as I am.
Having come from a Hindu religious background, and then lost my faith a little (after the sudden and accidental death of my father), I was drifting in life.. failing university exams, becoming a recluse with very few real friends..
I had always been interested in mind powers and psychic matters (dabbling with self-hypnosis, biorhythm, reading about telepathy, and telekinesis). So much so, that in A/Level, when I did so well in my Physics, I got a book voucher and the book I bought (handed to me officially in School assembly) was on Mind powers. I remember the Head Teacher startled and doing a double-take on the book before shaking my hand and handing it to me.
So after my father’s death, through some coincidences with friends and pen pals (in America.. they were the early pre-www world if telnetting and writing real letters!), I came across Runes, book in the garage in Egyptian mummifications..and into the `Body, Mind, Spirit’ world in London.
Those early conventions gave me a different impression. That everyone in it was so full of love, and unconditional friendship, trust etc. Then over time, I came into the Pagan world… And there too, I held the same beliefs.. because everyone in it talked about `coming home’ and how we are all the same, and magical..
In those early days, my High Priestess Laura and I had many a discussions.. on what it is to have perfect love, perfect trust …in Wiccan circles. And it is there that she broke my innocent bubble one day and told me that Pagans are people too.. and have their own flaws and prejudices.
I think ..though I heard her, and knew it intellectually, I did not understand it emotionally..
But over the years, I have learnt otherwise.
This world of Pagans, Wiccans, Witches, Shamans, Wizards, Dragon-Riders, Fairy-Dusters… and Broom-Flyers.. are just ordinary people.. and sadly, despite the highest ideals of perfect love and perfect trust, and a love for the Earth and Gods and Goddesses,.. there is also much darkness..
Darkness in itself is not a crime.. I am referring to deeper human emotions.. anger, frustrations, jealously, envy, power seeking, colluding, controlling, betraying, scapegoating, ego-driven, holier-than-thou..and all the other `warts’..
No it is not a crime.. but what is…is that so many wounded pagans, wiccans and Wizards ..are unaware of their own flaws and humanity.. and that they are actually acting on those impulses.. Instead some pagans seem to project their own darker sides and qualities (shadow functions) on to others.
I have even witnessed the pack mentality within some wiccan groups, pagan communities & Organisations, and ritual groups, not to mention bullying behaviour.. where small things are taken out of context, and acted upon and reactions snow-balled.. mole hills turning to mountains..and before you know it, hearts are broken, reputations are destroyed, and worse, people who `came home’ are left feeling `homeless..’ and ostracized from the very community they belonged to. These `rejected’ people can feel abandoned, bereft, extremely depressed, suicidal, and their lives can unravel disastrously. (That happens to anyone in an inclusive `love and light’ society where suddenly that person is excluded! )
As people work magically with powerful forces – elements, gods, goddesses, nature spirits, archangels..and so on.. and work to build communities, organisations, groups.. and memberships.. (such vastly magnificent goals and ideals).. what they tend to forget ..is that at the heart of it all.. is the human element.. ! It’s akin to driving at 80 mph in the fast motorways (Highways) for hours ..and then struggling to adjust to the 20 mph speed limit in urban streets. If no care is taken, and same speed is observed, an innocent in the street could get hurt. And once the harm is done, it can not be undone. Neither human nor the divine ever forgets! Bad karma piles up..
My advise to anyone new venturing into Pagan, Esoteric or magical communities (and I am part of this community..) is to be sensible, careful, and …while keeping to high magical or divine ideals, also keep an open mind..and your feet firmly on the ground.
The Pagan Community is just like any other community.. Completely and utterly…human.! Remember that, and all will go well..
Debate this:ps.This may seem like a very negative post – but just as my High Priestess offered me that advise all those years ago, I now offer it to others – having arrived at same wisdom through my own life’s ways. While many pagans may shy away from such topics, for fear of it showing (our) pagan community in bad light, I am happy to debate these matters further f0r the sake of learning, sharing and growth (but please no abusive or bullying comments!)

Children of Artemis – a Wiccan (witchcraft) group created the now popular event `Witchfest’ back in November 2002. Clever move really…and clever name..not to mention a brave one! For that I must applaud the genius of `Merlyn’ – founder/organiser of these events. (I first met `Merlyn’ at Vivianne & Chris Crowley’s home, in London, where a number of Wiccans were meeting to plan and deliver a batch of `Wicca Study Group’ in central London. So Merlyn & I were introduced under very trusting circumstances by trusted Elders of the Craft. It was only after that, that I started attending Children of Artemis Events).
Back in those days, we had lots of TV shows like `Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and `Charmed’ – where we could regularly see major Characters using Witchcraft! And the world took it with a growing appetite for such magical, Witchy adventures lived by ordinary (?) people in the modern world. It’s possible that this growing features of the occult, Wicca and Witchcraft contributed to many a young people either becoming aware of or gaining a pop-culture-style interest in Wicca & Witchcraft. This in turn helped propel organisations such as Children of Artemis who focused openly on the subject matter (in comparison to others such as The Pagan Federation – who gave focus to many a pagan paths such as Druidry, Shamanism, Northern traditions..in a more campaign sort of way).
There I must make further distinctions. People look up campaigning bodies or organisations – mostly when they are in sudden desperate need for such help. But people will look up groups and other organisations for the purpose of entertainment, lifestyle and social networking.. anytime and every day! And as Children of Artemis began to cater for this `lifestyle’ side of Wicca & Witchcraft, I believe it also started to gain popularity. Add to this the factor of CoA owning the domain name http://www.Witchcraft.org (which is bound to come up every time someone searched for that topic), and the addition of a members interactive forum ..where so many debates in so many `rooms’ were going on – it’s hard not to see why CoA grew so quickly. (The also provided a number of other services & campaign helps..).
CoA has had its critics – the other pagan organisations who liked to consider themselves as `serious’ and `Children of Artemis’ as light and a fad. I should know.. I was part of those other organisations such as The Pagan Federation. I myself was – to start with – an active member of the CoA! It is where I started making my earliest pagan friends in local pub moots (Croydon), and I also made many an online friends in those discussion forums (not to mention contributing). I was already an initiated Witch /Wiccan so I had that in common with others. I had contributed an article in the Children of Artemis Magazine `Wicca & Witchcraft magazine’ ( my article `Magical Empowerment in a Godless Universe’ appeared in issue#8 Samhain/Imbolc 2003/2004). And I have given talks at 2-3 of the CoA Pub moots (Croydon & Rochester, Kent). And of course a number of workshops at Witchfest Events…on subjects such as Quantum Magic, Elements, Dragon Magic.
I think my biggest contribution (most prominent perhaps is a better word) came when I put together a ritual team, out of strangers I had enlisted on the CoA forum, planned details by e-mails with them, and met only at the `Medieval Witches Ball’ in February 2004 at Fairfield Hall, Croydon.. to do a closing Ceremony! Some of the people I met in that ritual are still my friends – 8 years on! What precipitated from that was a regular outdoor ritual group – the first 2 – at Spring & Beltane of 2004 were billed as `official’ CoA outdoor rituals, and the organiser Merlyn himself attended – in Lloyd Park, Croydon, along with 20-30 people! (This group later became named by me as `Hern’s Tribe’ at Samhain of that Year, and still works rituals outdoors in London). Our ritual group also was asked to and did one other major ritual.. the Beltane Closing Ceremony at Witchfest England in May 2004. Shortly afterwards, my magical partnership with a fellow Wiccan ended and the ritual group changed.
Sadly, the gremlins came to work- and some of my frank discussions online in CoA Forums came under scrutiny by certain moderators. My posts (in the `Male Mysteries’ forum) were deleted, which began a spiral down path of me & CoA eventually parting company. At about the time I was welcomed by the `Pagan Federation London’. From November 2004, my focus shifted to Pagan Federation London- and for the next 7+ years (till Spring of this year 2012) – where I began to develop (over time) the `PF London Events Team’ (originally just made up of my own friends and keen supporters in Hern’s Tribe). There we have created so many features, events, brought back many an old events and made them regular features (Conventions, Balls, Picnics..) What the current `Pagan Federation London’ Officers take for granted, own and even have become rather possessive & protective about (against me of all people) are mine and my friends’ creations!
That is quite funny really (one of them recently accused me of trying to sabotage an open ritual…which dare I say I planned and booked some 6-8 months prior!). It’s all rather silly. But I appreciate that people have to find their on feet…and those less experienced tend to feel so insecure – that rather than ease into it, try and shoot their predecessors like me, as if that somehow will fix their own hidden issues? perhaps I am too much of a radical and a moral compass that they just can not face.. This process could also be a bit like children – who when hey reach adolescent have to exercise their growing adult-powers…by challenging their parents and teachers first! It’s just human nature, I guess.
Last year, at the Pagan Federation 40th Anniversary Conference, I bumped into Merlyn (creator / organiser of Witchfest). It wasn’t the first time, as I had bumped into him few years ago in a pub and shook hands. But last year, I spoke of me attending the Witchfest. He even handed me a flyer for the event in November 2011. But then the Pagan Fed wanted to have a Stall and I volunteered along with another officer (the new District Manager of Pagan Fed London now!). So I manned the stall in shifts, and attended a few talks.
I must say, looking back over the years, others have had their share of stirring or even egging me on in to certain states…possibly because my clashes have provided endless gossip and entertainment for the pagan communities in London. It’s a bit like a pagan/ witchy version of `EastEnders’ perhaps? In any case, I now stand neutral – within my own sphere, and it probably disappoints those who seek entertainment at my expense! People have shut me up for too long with excuses of `for the good of community’ – and I think it’s time that a balance is struck, and my own withheld truths – such as these I have written above- (and more) are revealed!
And today – it is Witchfest International Event.. their 10th anniversary, and my Wife and a few friends are already going. And me- I am planning to attend – not as a member of CoA, not as a Rep of the Pagan Federation ..not as Speaker, Ritualist…but just as me.. Mani.. a paying customer .. looking for a day out with my wife and friends, some fun, some workshops, and some dancing when the bands start in the evening.
Back in November 2010 (24/11/10) I was browsing through some wikipedia entries for various pagan organisations.. and came across the shocking fact that for `Pagan Federation’ entry, there was very little flesh.. nay…very little bones! So I set about adding new sections.. such as PF”s 3 Principles, The work of the PF, Community Services, the District structure of the PF, and external links for PF International, and PF London.
Unfortunately, nearly all of them (except the links) were deleted due to them being having unsourced or unreliable 3rd party references.
Well, earlier today (last night now) I was checking, by* chance, and found that the whole entry had been marked for deletion in 12th September 2012, but had be `saved’ because one person had pleaded that, “This is the national organisation for pagans in the UK and while I agree the present article is poor it should be improved rather than deleted”.
Well, it occurred to me that I myself had recently mentioned the Pagan Federation in atleast 2 Newspapers this year alone (In April, for Enfield Gazette, and in July, for Epping Forest Guardian), and those should be reliable 3rd party references. I started digging, remembering the Cole Morton Book `Is God still an Englishman’ in 2010 (he mentioned my name& quotes me in page 338, as I just found out!) , and his Guardian G2 feature in June 2009 – for which I had also been interviewed and photographed (material not used in G2). Bit more googling got me a few good links…one from BBC, mentioning the census of 2011 and the Pagan Federation.
So pooling all of it together, I have now added new sections to the wiki entry for Pagan Federation –
Origins of the PF (as Pagan Front in 1971) with ref in Witches An encyclopedia of Paganism & magic
Beliefs of the PF
Aims of the PF
Campaigns of the PF
all with reliable 3rd party citations, websites & links.
In astounds me that with 40 years of History, there aren’t more mentions of the Pagan Federation in various books, news papers, media etc. Actually there are…am 100% sure of it…but it’s just that no one seems to have put a well constructed wikipedia entry for the Pagan Federation…. (I mentioned it years ago in a PF council meeting..where I also suggested the PF take an active presence in the internet..social networks.. – which was not forthcoming..so I went ahead and set those UK, London & International groups/pages up inn facebook!)
Well, I should have been doing my own writing.. but for the past 6+ hours (6.30pm to 00:00hrs) I have been at it.. trying to give it some bones and some flesh that can’t be torn off by wikipedia experts who scrutinize articles for quality!
I am not sure if all my entries will survive.. as my citing / referencing skills are very new…and I may have done it not quite right. But those references are there now..so someone else can do a better job of it…if need be.. (It’s just cosmetic).
And better still.. I hope the hundreds of Pagan Federation members, Elders, Committee members, PR Gurus, web masters and Officers ..will dig deep, find more referencing material stretching back the past 10-20..30 years…and add more bones, flesh..and even a bit of healthy fat to the Pagan Federation entry in wikipedia :-p
One thing for sure- I haven’t worked this hard on referencing anything …for over 20 years (last time was when I was in University).
Last night while watching the closing ceremony of the Paralympic 2012, many pagans around the UK (and possibly around the world) can not fail to have noticed the obvious `pagan elements’ in it. Ex-Soldier Rory McKenzie (who had lost one leg due to raodside mine in Iraq) – stood on a stage high above the crowd in the Olympic stadium, wearing a leather jacket, and appearing to be `reading a book by hand’ (brail?) spoke certain words.. calling to the spirits of Autumn, Winter, spring and Summer…and the energies of Water, Earth, Air & Fire.
“I call upon the Spirit of Summer. The spirit of fire, of energy of passion; spirit of the noonday sun, the heat of summer, vitality and abundance. I call upon the spirit of Winter. The spirit of earth, of the womb of creation; of the night and the snows of winter, deep roots and ancient stones. I call upon the spirit of Spring. The spirit of air, the breath of life; of sunrise, of new life and new growth. I call upon the spirit of Autumn. The spirit of water, of the ebb and flow of emotion; of open seas and running streams, of cleansing rain; spirit of the evening sun, of twilight and of Autumn.”
Rory then went on to talk about the Earth, Ancestors, Circle and more..
“The circle is unbroken, The ancestors awoken. May the songs of the Earth and of her people ring true. Hail to the Festival of the flame of root and branch, tooth and claw, fur and feather, of earth and sea and sky”
It now appears that those words were indeed taken from a special Druid Ritual, with permission – but that the Druid Order was sworn to secrecy by the Organisers of the Closing Ceremony.. so they could not reveal this news to any pagans..
“We were sworn to secrecy beforehand, but Emma Restall Orr and I were approached by the organisers of the 2012 Paralympics closing ceremony with a surprising request. They wanted our permission to use parts of the gorsedd ritual we wrote in 1997. So, about 20 minutes into the ceremony, these words went out to 750 million people around the world, spoken by Rory Mackenzie on behalf of Help For Heroes..”- (GreyWolf)
Following the online version, Mike Stygal, Vice President of The Pagan Federation (and District Manager of PF London) contacted the journalist Katie Bamber, and offered additional insights and info, which have now appeared on the printed version of the article as an `info box’ . I also understand that the journalist is happy to maintain communications with us (Pagan Federation) on any future pagan related matters – which is a success in itself for us Pagans.
If anyone has a copy of the said anonymous `flyer’ that initially stated that pagans were going to sacrifice a man in Epping Forest, can you please send me a copy so that I can display that here too.. for completion sake! Thanks.
The Journalist Katie was kind enough to provide PF London District Manager Mike with the flyer that had been anonymously circulated in the Epping Forest Area. Here is a scanned copy below.
Quite apart from the sheer lunacy of this claim, I can already (in the blink of an eye) see so many discrepancies in the claim made by the flyer’s contents. It rather looks like someone with half a knowledge looked up a whole load of disjointed pagan topics on wikipedia or something and created the flyer. 😛 I’ll address those points in another blog.. (Oh yeas, we pagans have a right to reply!)
Our sincere thanks to Katie for being so open-minded on this matter, and giving us sensible pagans an opportunity to respond. Very well done Katie. Some of us are likely to nominate her for the special PF Journalist award (one that Boris Johnson was once awarded). More on that another time.
I’ve written extensively about Lammas symbolism in a previous blog entry. So please do read it for that info. The following was written as part of information for a Wiccan training group:
A word on Sacrifice:
The Corn-King is a symbol of nature’s energies, Sun’s energies etc being gathered and focused. At Lammas, he who holds that energy must let go of it. In this ritual, the Corn-King willingly sacrifics his energies, and soon afterwards, the person is resurrected! (In Wiccan rituals, we don’t like to leave people dead. We always balance it out).
A word on personal sacrifices:
There is a Corn-King in all of us! We each must make a willing sacrifice in our own personal way and let go of certain energies we hold too possessively. Only then can we be open to death & re-birth, transformation, and for new energies to come into our lives! Don’t make a token-sacrifice (like, `am giving up smoking’). It must be something real and sensible. Trust that letting go of it will actually help the world, and in turn will also help you personally grow in other ways!
It’s not about the end of the line (Corn King dies!), but also from another point of view- Harvest! It is about reaping what we have all been sowing and cultivating. At this point in your lives, all your previous efforts have brought you to the point of this magical path and a new beginning – which in many ways is your magical harvest!
Hi all, I just finished editing this video…of the clips filmed at last year’s Beltane Festival in Edinburgh. – warning> It has nudity in it. Don’t look if you get offended by such things.
Beltane is one of the 8 festivals celebrated by Pagans. It is also a fertility festival, where many pagan couples get married.

Parts of UK have been battered about by high winds last night (early hours of 5th Jan’12) and half of the following day. There have been gusts of winds reaching 60-70mph.
I was bust doing work on the laptop – and part of me kept wanting to go out in the garden and experience the stormy weather – cos I like doing that, and ave done so before (once went out by the coast at midnight to see the sea front in midst of 70+mph winds. Then promptly went back to the B&B I was staying, got April out of bed, wrapped up carefully, and got her out too … just for few minutes! Wow)
Back to last night – well, the winds hadn’t ceased, and by 4.45am, I fully succumbed to the temptation – got out of pyjamas, put on proper outdoor cloths, coat, scarf, hat – promptly carried my magical Sword – and went out to the Willow tree in the garden! And climbed the long ladder that’s been kept there… to mid-section of the tree (to branches above height of a 1st floor roof, but big enough to carry my weight without snapping).
It was fantastic! I stayed up there for a good 20 minutes, experiencing each wave of gusts – doing various visual and magical works , of clearing the cobwebs from my mind. (I had not been up the tree since the Neighbours had cut parts of it one afternoon, without our permission, and against our express instructions! And of course, I have been suffering bad back-pains and getting treatment – and it creates a slow-settling fear that itself can be debilitating). So it was good to be up there – to reconnect, and let go of that trauma, for me, and no doubt for the Willow tree too!
It must have been some sight – if anyone had seen me – standing up a tree at such night time, holding and waving a sword about, facing the winds!
At some points, I closed my eyes (after ensuring my foothold was secure and I wasn’t going to slip on damp tree-trunk or branches)- and just felt the tree sections move me about. It truly felt – if at all possible – like I was riding a Dragon in the sky!!
After such an experience – life looks different! And all of today, I have been working fiercely, as if there is a storm-force inside me.
