Many of you know I’m a big fan of Doctor Who – the BBC TV series charting the sci-fi adventures of The Doctor.. a Time Traveller. Well, for the last 2 years (exactly, to date from 24th Dec 2013 to today 24th Dec 2015) I’ve been Executively producing our own fan series..
Our series has been very Esoteric – with many occult & magical / pagan themes running through it.. (and more on the way!)
Well, series#1 of our DoctoWho Imaginarium is now complete, with 11 episodes and few minisodes and can be viewed on my DrWho Youtube channel (link below). It stars a female Doctor (Sandra Tena) and a male Doctor (Stephen Cole). Interestingly, both of them met each other last year during one of our filming sessions in Glastonbury..and would you believe it..they are now actually (for real, legal and all) married!! So it’s now Sandra Cole & Stephen Cole. 🙂 We’ve also had Dougal Duthie as our boy-Doctor for Children in Need 2015 special.. (and..you’ll soon see me in some mysterious Doctor-ish role).
Our previous logo of the 3 Wheels with a pendulum swinging… and the letter `i-2 (i-squared) standing for `Imaginarium’ was used till now.. (and may I add.. we were using it long before the wheeled title sequence of Peter Capaldi’s first series aired in August’14).
Now, we’re rebranding the name slightly..as `Doctor Who London – by Imaginarium Fan Productions’ and last night I unveiled our new logo. And here it is..:-)
“Have you loved, loved someone or something so dearly ..and lost?..” So begins the monologue – something I wrote ..about 11 months ago…at a time when I was nursing my own broken heart.
The lines were for The Doctor – now in a female form, in a minisode that I wrote, directed, filmed and produced. It stars my friend Sandra Tena (published Writer, originally from Mexico) as the world famous wanderer in Time and Space. I think, at the time, Sandra too was hiding an aching heart.. It was a case of two people with similar pains coming together to create art! (Sandra and I are just friends, and remain so.. in case you were wondering..)
The minisode was filmed by the Docklands area in London, way back in January of this year (2014)…but we only aired it on 23rd August (same day as when Peter Capaldi’s new Doctor Who episode aired on BBC TV). Technically, that’s the launch date of `our’ own Fan video series…but full episodes are coming in January 2015 (we just finished filming all 7 stories).
So back to Love then.
I thought about the kind of pain that The Doctor might be feeling..about always loving people..and then loosing them to the passing of time…watching them age and die, or get killed.. or just them giving it up and leaving the life inside the TARDIS. Yes, we’ve seen many glimpses of this sadness that the Doctor contains…and he does contain it.. (how could he not…he’s lived over 2,000 years old.. If he did let it sink too much..his heart will break.. both of them.. Well, I put that line in there too.. 🙂
Sandra brought a real sense of inner vulnerability to that minisode when we filmed it..
And of course, a few days later, she was leaving London…and heading back to Mexico.. In a way that was a bit sad too..
But it gets better 🙂
She left some of her suitcases with me in London for safe keeping.. And she came back to London in July.. and we filmed many more episodes… And guess what…she found Love.. ! And guess a bit more- she found love with another friend of mine.. a guy who was also in my Doctor Who fan production..by the name of Stephen Cole.. (An actor who lives in Glastonbury..) And go on..guess once more.. they met `on the set’ during our filming of his Doctor Who story (yes, we have two Doctors!). And they `got together on `International Peace Day’ ..That was back in September’14.
I hear they are moving in together in 2015.. and going forward in life.. so good happy news..
Well there’s more to it.. Sometimes, when some hearts mend, other hearts get broken.. and that’s life too.. I think another friend of mine ended up with a heart ache.. But wait.. the other friend found love again.. So it’s all okay!! Honest!! 🙂
As for me.. well.. looking back at my own last 2 years ..I wonder if `Am a good man?’ I think I am a fallen Angel.. or a rising Demon.. Am never sure. Broken hearts can create all sorts of turmoils..and personality shifts.. make one bitter, depressed, reclusive, unable to go forward or backwards.. (well, isn’t this a joy…Actually it is to those who follow my blogs.. I rarely write about my personal life.. and often keep to just being astrological, spiritual and all that… So here you get a glimpse…And why ever not…It’s the last day..of 2014…the `Year of I’mPossible Dreams’ that I set off back in January.. How many of those became possible..am not sure.. )
All I can say is…my story is still unfolding.. and am sure a travelling Companion will walk into my TARDIS…I mean my life.. at some point.. Well, for that to happen, I need a TARDIS first… And seeing I partially built one years ago..and then got fed up and burnt most of it.. Yes, I have plans to build a new TARDIS…both the inside console room..and the outside Blue Box..
Then a Companion can accidentally walk into it.. I’ll make sure the door is unlocked..and kept open.. Doors..? Hearts… TARDIS? Life? All same thing.. Have you not figured it out..? Did you think just am not talking transpersonal psychology today? Why would I stop doing that?? 🙂
Have you had a dream or two..or hundreds…of a box, a bed, a room, a ship, a car, a hut or a house? It’s all you..you ..you.. symbolically..! well, same here… Yeap, Psychology ya see!
Meanwhile.. watch this minisode…It’s Brilliant and bitter sweet.. I should know.. I wrote what I felt.. and I know that parts of those tears in her eyes were not acting at all..

Doctor Who Imaginarium Fan Productions
31s December 2014
Doctor Who Imaginarium Fan productions presents.. starring Sandra Tena as The Doctor in `Love Loss and Life’.
Written, Directed, filmed & edited by Mani Navasothy.
Filmed on location in the Docklands area of London (in January 2014).
This minisode is a character piece that explores the pain and anguish of love lost.. especially for a Time Lady!
Enjoy the minisode.. Our full run of stories start in 2015, with a Prelude called `Lucifer’s Legacy’, and first full story, `Dragons of London’ and then `Shaman’s Game’.
We already have 7 stories to tell..ranging from the final days of the Dark Times of Gallifrey (That wasn’t even its name then).. to raging Cyberman wanting the God Upgrade..and old foes playing with The Doctor’s soul itself.. !! And another thing.. One of those Doctors is not Who he appears to be..!
Doctor Who (c) BBC. TARDIS (c) BBC.
No copyright breach intended. This is an entirely non-profit fan production..by fans for fans..just for fun!!
On 30th October 2014, my friends and I drove up to Windsor Town – yes, same place where Royal Windsor Castle is! It was for filming scenes of one of our fan DrWho video stories – previously called `CyberGenesis’ (I;ll come to that in a bit). The story involves `our’ Doctor suddenly appearing (No TARDIS) in Windsor, and getting caught up in a plot by a mysterious villain called The Shaman – who seems to have found the perfect way to blackmail the Doctor – and force him to steal an artefact from Windsor Castle itself!!
We filmed outside the castle, and then went to the Windsor Great Park – that’s a great big forest! To do more location shots.. Filming continued few days later in another woods..
Here’s a short fun video that my sister filmed of us (cast and crew) on that day in Windsor. 🙂
And now here’s the exciting bit.. We are almost close to wrapping up the filming for `this’ series…(7 stories)..and will soon start editing and uploading online- where you can watch it for free (from late November onwards!)
That’s not all.. We start pre-production on the `next series’ to be filmed from Spring 2015 onwards and shown from early Summer 2015. I say `series’ but to be honest, it’s a rolling schedule.. We’ll fil, edit and show..and film..and onwards.. As and when our stories are complete. We are entirely dependant on friends’ and fellow fans’ support, participation and even creative contributions..
WE are Looking for YOU to join us!!
So contact me.. via our website e-mail, or comments in our youtube channel, or by liking our facebook page..
ps. The story we are filming is no longer to be titled as `CyberGenesis’. This is due to the shocking discovery that the BBC’s own Doctor Who story `Dark Water/ Death in Heaven’ starring Peter Capaldi as The Doctor – showed very similar concepts to our original version (which we had been writing/ working on since December 2013!!! If we carried on the same ideas, fans would be bored, or might say, they copied the BBC’.. So we have had a rethink and are changing some of the concepts.. and removing the emphasis on The Cyberman..and putting it on…Hern.. a horned God/ mythological figure that roams Windsor Great PArk..
Doctor Who Imaginarium – is the name of our Fan Production Series…yes series..! It all started as a fun photoshoot in London outside that `Earl’s Court TARDIS’ on Christmas Eve last year (24th Dec’2013) .. and before we know it, we were frantically doing an actual (spontaneous) episode in January this year (2014).. just days before my friend Sandra Tena was flying back to Mexico.
Then my mind got churning.. ideas started to flow.. I figured I needed a team..and more `Doctors’.
So by the time Sandra came back to Uk in late June’14, there was a whole plan in motion..
Zip forward to today.. we have filmed 5-6 stories…and 2-3 are in pre-production.. (that means I am working on scripts and stories – in my sleep, in my showers, in the trains & buses and on my laptop.. 🙂 and it also means various rooms of my home are in chaos..with half created masks, costumes and props..).
Did I say we took a full size (cardboard) Dalek and filmed on top of the Glastonbury Tor? Did I also say that we are going to Windsor Great Park / Castle…next week…to film another story? Oh..I just did…Jolly good.
It all starts with a new beginning to the history (pre-history) of Gallifrey.. There’s Kronos, there’s a Dark Guardian of Time..and there’s Lucifer.. but not the one you think you know..
We have new age DAlek-Om, meditating Cybermen in Afterlife, Alpha-Centauri, the Great Vampire (not as you’ve seen them before), zombies, a mysterious Morgaine, a time travelling gene splicing Shaman. amongst many things…
Oh..and a female Doctor..!
Didn’t I say? 🙂
I’ll be starting a new blog for all updates on this..but for now.. this post is a launch pad!
(Executive Producer/ Director)
ps. If you are living near London, and like to join our fan production for our series#2 in 2015, get in touch with me soon.. I am looking for cast members, production team members for all of the following – story writing, script editors, directors, camera/ filming, photography, prop/costume makers, cosplayers, help with transport and pretty much everything a video production needs!! 🙂 This first series has been done very much with my close circle of 10+ friends… where we’ve doubled-tripled up to do so much.. So we are looking to develop wider and bigger.. 🙂
If all goes well, a portal will open up at 7.50pm (gmt) and swallow the entire.. No..just kidding. Am going to try something a bit clever.. set up a blog and let it be published at a pre-set time..(cos I;ll be in a Cinema watching the big show tonight!!) So.. this blog should be coming out…at 7.50pm…gmt..when the `Doctor Who: Day of the Doctor’ premiers all over the world..in many countries…in many cinemas..as well as on their television screens (of course!)
Most of this art works are very old..and faded.. I suppose I could enhance it graphically…Maybe another time..But here are the scans of the original..
These were copied covers off those Target Novelisations.. going back to mid-1980’s when I had arrived in UK..
And here are some slightly better quality pencil art.. portraits of the older Doctors..
And Finally, here’s a concept illustration (A3) called `The Forfeit’ that shows the 6th Doctor with Valyard.. Notice the Hanged-Man tarot card, the fallen chess piece, the 13 on dice and so on.. 🙂
ps. Am starting a few new full scale craft projects (Doctor Who) with `making of.. ‘ videos to boot.. Just for fun.. So look out for updates in a few weeks.. 😉 After all, we still have the big Regeneration from Matt smith to Peter Capaldi’s 12th / 13th Doctor at Christmas to get very excited about..!!
*all art works shown here (c) Mani Navasothy. If sharing, please give credit to the artist 🙂 Thanks.*
Well, by now you can’t have failed to notice..that the whole World is heading for a cataclysmic event of epistopic proportions.. (epic is such a common word now..so am borrowing `epistopic’ from the Doctor Who series itself!).
Actually it’s not cataclysmic …but jubilant and utterly Celebratory!
No other TV show has been going on for 50 yrs – yes okay with a few years of break in the middle! But that’s like a person going all recluse for few years and returning to family & friends.. What matters is when it started..and if it’s still `alive’ 🙂 Besides, in the `gap years’ there have been plenty of audio & video dramas of Doctor Who stories.. starring actual past `Doctors’ ..so I call that a good continuity!
Right.. I have much to say about a Hero and a show that has inspired me, seen me through personal hard times, propelled me to go on and do a Physics Degree, turn my hate of History & Sociology into deep interests and much more..
But ..bit busy right now..!
So I’ll start ..by sharing some of my recent art works/ graphics…modeled on the `Time Lord mythos’ ..as it becomes applicable to my own life. (not that you’ll know..unless you are a close friend ..)
The personal story so far…
The original TimeLine graphics (above) shows me at various events..wearing masks (for Pagan ceremonies etc).. and key points.. with key people (partner, sister)..
But the one below is a variation on my original `TimeLine’ graphics…but with a Halloween Twist (with `Death’) in the middle.. It’s as if other forces have started to interfere with my timelines.. (bit like when the `Great Intelligence’ jumped into the Doctor’s time-steam in `The Name of the Doctor’)
And below you can see a recent one I started to do.. called `Regeneration’ ..as a result of personal stuff…! (yes I really was going through difficult times in my life ..this whole year has been like that- sadly).
On an artistic level, this (above) shows two separate `worlds’ merging.. (the outdoor nature shot is taken in Euston, London, and the indoor shot is part of the Westminster tube station, London.. and the Tardis is a photo of the model that is outside Earl’s Court tube station, London)..and me..well, that’s a photo of me in my room.. ! 🙂 The `jacket’ of course is my 9 year old `tribal jacket’ (that I wear for rituals in woodlands..)
This then leads into the one below.. called `UnRegenerate’ .. and it takes the concept of a Regeneration `going wrong’.. (as in the case of when The Master trying to regenerate beyond his 12th incarnation in the `Deadly Assassin’ (Tom Baker story set in Gallifrey). I used the same background graphics as before..but used a new photo of me being in my comfy night robes at home..
This then leads me to a strange one in the middle.. `Shadow Hunter’. The idea is that the `Regeneration’ has gone a bit warped..creating a fractured / splintered personality.. ie the Shadow.. of the Self.
And all this finally brings about a happy resolution..which is.. `Manifestations’ – where the process is complete, and a more settled `new’ self finally surfaces and..settles.. 🙂 ..and about time too…’cos it’ll be my birthday soon.. ! ps. If I ever run a big magical empowering conference or something ( a festival) I’d call it.. `Mani-Fest’ of course… a play on words..my name..and festival..but also about manifesting your own realities..:-)
And that brings me to something else that I shall blog later this evening.. something that will blow you side-ways..to know ab out the good Doctor Who.. !
BBC has announced that Peter Capaldi is to play the 12th incarnation of The Doctor (Doctor Who).. –
The Time Lord (BBC TV show) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year (23rd November) in a special episode with the Current (11th) Doctor Matt Smith…joining forces with the 10th Doctor David Tennant.. and the forgotten Doctor John Hurt (last seen in `The Name of the Doctor’)..when the current Doctor `entered his grave..and into the energy matrix that is his `imprint’ on the universe.. (every tear and every scar on the space-time created by the Doctor’s travels!!)
To celebrate the arrival of the 12th Doctor, I have created this graphics below 🙂 It was created using some space background I had digitally painted, along with photos of Stonehenge, and the old Police Phone Box ..found outside London’s Earl’s Court tube station.. (go have a look 🙂
Hope to create more art / graphics to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who..
Back in 1994, I created an A2 sized art work for a competition at the then `Who-7′ convention held at Crystal Palace. I submitted a detailed 1 meter model of the Blakes-7 ship Liberator, a Cyberman mask, and 2 pieces of art work. Of course it was the cyberman mask that won first prize, and I got the prize on stage from non other than Colin Baker (6th Doctor.. `my Doctor’).
As this year is when Doctor Who celebrates 50th anniversary in November 2013 (23rd November makes Doctor Who a Sagittarian!)..I dug out the art work and revamped it a bit with help of my graphic software (darken colours, add space background etc).
In this art work, you can see 13 TARDISes.. one for each of the Doctors ..(in the future that is… as there can only be 13 incarnations.. We are currently on 11th incarnation with Matt Smith). And it looks like all the time-lines have been messed up (crossed), and all the Doctors have been pulled into one place.. where all the TARDISes have crashed…or materialized …and locked one into another! (They are coming through a vortex.. which looks rather like a `question’ mark 🙂
Funny thing is.. I did the original work in 1994.
And few years ago, we’ve had `Time Crash’ – a Children in Need special, where 10th Doctor (David Tennant) and 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) meet inside the TARDIS.. by some accident! (shortly before the TARDIS crashes into a spaceship Titanic!)
Not only that, few years ago, we’ve also seen the Matt Smith episode `The Doctor’s Wife’ where…outside the normal universe, on an alien `planetoid’, the TARDIS lands.. and it turns out to be a place where many other TARDISes have crashed before.. what with so much of the wrecks strewn all over.
Similar concepts. But I got there some 17 years before! 🙂
Still they haven’t done this idea (yet).. May be they will ..?
1994- There was that Science Fiction Convention called `Who7′ which celebrated BBC TV’s two famous serials – Doctor Who & Blakes-7. The convention took place in South London area (Crystal Palace) in a Hotel.
For the competition, I submitted 3 pieces – a full spaceship `Liberator’ (from Blakes-7) made entirely of cardboard ..in every detail (measuring about 1 meter in length!), a piece of A2 art work (something to do with TARDISes.. that deserves a blog of its own :-), and of course the Cyberman head piece…made of light cardboard.
In the convention, I got to meet various actors & Actresses.. who have played characters such as `The Doctor’ (Collin Baker), Leela (Louise Jameson), Villa (Michael Keaton) and others.. Unfortunately many of the autographed items and my very expensive SLR zoom camera itself was stolen (people broke into hotel car park and took it. a week later police found my bag and water stained booklet ..but other stuff was never recovered). I think I attended it with my cousin Suren and my younger sister Yalini.
And here’s the Victory Photo ..of me with my Cyberman mask that won first prize on stage..and the guy who gave me the prize – none other than Collin Baker – 6th Doctor (who) himself.
Ah! Despite the car break in and loss, it still remains a good memory.
Cybermen.. arch enemies of the wandering Time Lord (The Doctor). These creatures – humans from another planet who had replaced body parts with cybernetic parts so much that they became cybermen – were first encountered by the Doctor whilst in his first `incarnation’ – (William Hartnell), and the adventure very nearly killed the Doctor. It was called `The Tenth Planet’ – where a wandering 10th planet came very close to Earth in deed (by its own propulsion …thanks to Cyber-technology)! The weather on Earth went haywire. Those Early Cybermen were really scary character to be honest. Fabric-draped faces.. hollow gaps for eyes.. and mouth.. and speaking in a strange tape-recorder playing on/off type manner.
At the end of it, the (first) Doctor had to withdraw to the safety and support of the TARDIS, where he regenerated for the first time! Those were the 60’s!
Well, more recently (2006?) when the revamped `new’ new new new series of Doctor Who came back to BBC TV, Russell T Davies & the folks responsible re-invented the origins for Cybermen. These ones were the product of a Scientist in a parallel Earth – who was a disabled (wheel-chair bound) guy who wanted to create better models.. and he kidnapped and surgically hacked homeless people off the streets and turned them (or just re-housed their brains in machine body suits) into Cybermen.
Few years ago, for Christmas special, there was the story `The Next Doctor’ – where the then current Doctor (David Tennant) found himself in Victorian London, in snow.. and encountered a cybermen plot to create `CyberKing’ – (spoiler alert) – a Giant Robot form.
As a pagan I got thinking about this – and as I already had a `Maya Sun God’ mask, decided ..not only to make a new cyberman mask..but to also make a `CyberGod’ out of him (Cybergod is a Concept I have played about with for many years in my own visionary art explorations and narratives.. It will surface one day! 😉
ps. By the way, this is the 2nd Cyberman mask I have made. The first one was made around early 1990’s, and I also made a full cybersuit then (polythene body suit sprayed with silver paint).. to walk around King’s College (London University) Student Union areas, to promote the `Sci-fi & fantasy Society’ (My friend Raymond & I started that off). It’s possibly the earliest example of me wearing a mask and parading around large number of people (been doing that in Open pagan rituals in recent 7-8 years).
