Hi all, just when I thought I’d finished writing about astrological events (for now!) I remembered this thing.
There is a traditional Blue moon later in the year – I use the phrase traditional to mean the usual trend of having 2 Full moons in the same calendar month – It is the second full moon which everyone calls a Blue moon. Well, we will be having one of those.. at the end of August 2102. The first full moon, falls on 2nd of August’12 and is in the sign of Aquarius (at 3.27hrs gmt) . The second Full moon of that month is on 31st August, and in the sign of Pisces (at 13:58hrs gmt). So this one on the 31st is a traditional Blue moon!! (technically it may not fall on 31st of August for some parts of the world.. I imagine for people in Australia, it will be the next day.. and so falls not on the `same calendar month’.
Astrological Full moon:
But here comes more tech info. A true `astrological blue moon’ is one where two consecutive full moons fall in the `same star sign’. We had one of those last year in 2011. Note, when that happens, the first full moon of the `pair’ may be in one calendar month (say 15th December) at ..say 1degree Gemini, and 2nd of the pair on 14th January (following year)..in 30degrees Gemini, that’s what we call an Astrological Full moon.. both in the sign of Gemini (It’s an example I just made up…so don;t go looking for it 🙂
Now for the other bit-
Indigo Moon:
This is a phrase I coined up few years ago when talking about this subject online an with friends. If we have `blue moons’ at full moons, I thought about `new moons/ dark moons’ happening in same calendar months or in same star signs in consecutive months… I felt that deserved a name, so called it `Indigo moon’ – basically it’s the 2nd New moon in the same calendar month or same astrological sign!
Well, we have one of those this year too.. 20th May’12 i a new moon in Gemini (0’21” degrees at 23:47hrs gmt) , and 19th June is also a New moon in Gemini (28’43” degrees at 15:02 hrs gmt). So in my book, that’s an astrological Indigo moon 🙂
Now here is a fab extra news.. the first of those `Indigo moon’ pairs (20h May) is also a Solar Eclipse!!
I’ll write about those another time.. and also will do a free Webinar on these 🙂

ps. Photo of moon taken by me few years back, using zoom function of a hand-held DVD camera’s still photo function.. I was amazed I could get such photos. 🙂
