Venus direct & Mercury Retrograde (Nov-Dec’2018)
Venus goes direct today in Libra! So that’s great for all Librans & Taureans. BUT Mecury who has been in Sagittarius starts retrograde today…and will do so till 7th December. So that’s difficult 3 weeks for Sagittarians, Geminis and Scorpios.
During this retrograde period, Mercury will slip back into Scorpio on 1st December and keep going retro till 7th Dec..
ps. Sagittarians will have it tough between 17th Nov – 1st Dec. Then then it eases up. On 13th December, direct-Mercury re-enters Sagittarius.. But as that’s direct, Saggies get a chance to sort things proactively any issues that surface between next 2 weeks. Just be relieved that because of the Mercury slip back into Scorpio, Saggies don’t get the full 3 weeks of tough-love from this merc-retro period.
On the eve of the Full moon in the air sign of Gemini, we gather for our monthly `Tamesa London Circle’ (established in 2006), to honour the Moon Goddess.. Horned God, Tamesa the Serpent of London.. and do magic at the Heart of London.
No prior knowledge or experiences of wicca or ritual magic is necessary for you to attend this. Just come with an open mind. Be friendly and non-intrusive. Connect with others, and join in the ceremony.
Note: This will be the last Full moon ceremony by Thames in 2018…as the one in December falls on same day as our Winter/Yule gathering in Queen’s woods.
Fee: £3 .
Gather outside the Green area of Tate Modern Gallery (main doors). We’ll walk down to the banks of Thames and do this ceremony. If you are late, just find the steps, walk down to river bank, and join us. We’re usually under the concrete over-hang/ sheltered space.
Thames & Tides:
Our rituals tale place on the actual river bank…just few meters away from the water. We organise these Thames-rituals after checking Port of London authority Thames Tide time tables.. to take place at low tide.. (At high tide the entire river bank is under many meters of water!!).
The steps are slippery. bank of Thames after previous tide will be full of new things and sharp objects. Take extreme care with your own health & safety. You are responsible for your safety.
**No children allowed**
**Unfortunately the location is not suitable for anyone with walking disabilities**
What to bring:
• Please dress appropriate for weather! (we carry on Rituals regardless of weather).
• Please bring food & drinks to share ( bread & cheese / humus are a good start) and any soft drink/wine that you like to share with others in circle.
• a torchlight is a good idea. Feasting/ sharing food & Drinks:
After the ritual circle on the river bank is completed, some people leave for home. Others stay behind to socialise. We tend to go back up to street level, to the grassy green area outside Tate Modern Gallery and socialise/ share food & drinks.. If it’s raining, we just go to the nearby Pub within sight.

This came up in one of my facebook community pages…so here’s the question and my answer.
With regard to Wicca, why keep the old ways a secret? Why keep the sacred truth to yourselves when it should be shared with the world?
To be honest.. so much of Wicca has now been talked about, blogged about, and more importantly written about extensively in thousands of published books..! So the World knows all about it…the initiation rituals, the seasonal ones, the tools, the oaths …all of it. There are no wiccan secrets as such now in the present day.
BUT..and it’s a big but.. the mystery of wicca remains..! It can only be experienced in an actual closed group ritual.. no matter how much of it has been written or talked about.
Why is it that way? Talking and reading is the equivalent of a pregnant lady watching a documentary on TV about giving birth, or a young man/woman watching a romantic film… However, the actual experience of giving birth to a new life (all that birth pain for mother, and risk of her own death!) … or falling in love with another person (the thrill, the chase, the apprehensions, the insecurities, the actual Union/ making love) …….those things can only ever be `known’ by actually experiencing it. The real mystery remains.. no matter how many books One reads or how many movies one sees!!
So yeah…no secrets in Wicca now.. but magical Mystery remains!!
“To speak the Truth, to honour our spoken word, and to be Just & Fair in all our dealings..!”
I’ve followed (King) Arthur Uther Pendragon for a long time now.. and admired what he (sometimes single handedly) stands up for and injustices he stands up to! Had the privilege of inviting him to facilitate one of the rituals at PF London in 2005-6 when i was Events Organiser for PFL. Some years ago when he said to a group.. hold everywhere sacred..(not just Stonehenge) I took it to heart and have been keeping London as my sacred focus..instead of always running out of london to other spiritual places all the time.. And appreciate his sentiment that if we pagans want to keep Stonehenge sacred in the eyes of tourists etc at festive times, we should `robe up’ and be seen in our magical/ priest/ priestly appearance..
So it is finally my honour to be Knighted by Arthur at the Templar Church yard – this time last year (2017) in London… at the culminating ceremony of a day of rituals around London. (there were others.. warrior Priestesses & priests who were knighted at same event..and we stand together in fellowship). Sir John Crow was the first, followed by Jenny, Debbie, Donna and a number of us. Their photos are in my other album for this Sacred day of rituals’ 🙂
To the `uninitiated’ it may be seen as a curiosity, a gimmick.. but for some of us, this – done in a magic circle, on sacred grounds (Templar Church in London, on the spot where the old Lamb building stood before it was wiped by WW bombing in 1942).. this act matters.. and takes on deeply significant proportions.
“To speak the Truth, to honour our spoken word, and to be Just & Fair in all our dealings..!”
I’ve always done this.. so it isn’t so much a beginning of the journey but a recognition of what i have been doing for a decade and a half.. and I will continue to do so..
`We swear by peace and love to stand,
Heart to heart, and hand to hand,
mark O spirit and hear us now..
Confirming this our sacred vow!’
Deer rutting (mating) season is upon us between September – October, and we return with our woodland walk in Richmond Park, for Stag-Watch, making magical wands & doing a discrete consecration ceremony!
**for safety reasons, please read this event info section FULLY**
This is a non-intrusive free-flow exploratory walk.. of 2-3 hours, spotting deer. We’ll also be looking out for suitable gifts from the Earth .. small twigs or branches – to make our own magical wands!! And for those willing to stay a bit longer into the evening.. we’ll be doing a wand-consecration ceremony..!
Many of us Witches & pagans worship the Horned God.. (Cernunnos – Lord of the wild Beasts) and Ellen – antlered Goddess. so here is a woodland event to get intune with all that, as well as create a magical artefact of your own (wand).
Facilitator – Mani – has been working with empowering Hern (Horned God) energies and been running a private ritual group called `Hern’s Tribe’ since 2004 (It’s the origins of all this `Woodland Witches meetup group’).
Fee/ contribution: £5 suggested.
The plan (approx):
We like to be organic with these new walks that we are organising.. These are not formal rituals but social walks & explorations – with practical magical & shamanic elements naturally integrated. So please do arrive with plenty of time allowed for this, fully prepared with right clothing/boots, and some essential food & drinks/water packed. A walking stick helps..but no worries.. It’s easy to find one in the woods within minutes of getting there.
1. We’ll meet at Richmond station foyer coffee shop.. (1.00pm). Gather all..Take bus to Richmond Gate. (stop `American University’ then 5 min walk).
2. At Richmond Gate (1.30pm) we’ll gather everyone – including those coming by cars (free car park inside Richmond park – please make your own arrangements but come meet us by the gate).
3. Start our exploratory walking from Richmond Gate. We’ll check out some beautiful Oak trees (some are hollow and can accommodate a human inside ..quite magical). We will not intrude on any Trees that are fenced up for their own protection..
4. Along the way we’ll collect small twigs suitable for shaping into wands. There will be breaks (bring snacks and drink for your self). We’ll be stopping often to observe stags and take photos , tuning in etc.
5. After a few hours , we’ll find a suitable place for settling down to make Wands. The follow up with a wand consecration rite including Ellen (Horned Goddess) and Cernunnos (Horned God) as deities.
6. Stags rutting intensifies at dusk onwards. So as we walk back to gates/ exit, we may stop for more explorations.
7. Weather: Unless it’s severe rain, we’ll go ahead with this event. So look out for notice in comment section on the morning of the event for (onl for any postponement).
8. We’ll take bus back to station. At Richmond town centre, we’ll probably stop over for a few drinks / snack / pub.. and continue socials.
***Those who wish to leave early may do so any time during the whole event. Just make sure you know the way back***
Children/ Dogs :
Due to the exploratory and magical nature of this event, we regret that children only allowed at the strict discretion of any parents / guardians who must accompany children. Dogs to be kept on leash at all times a sper park rules for safety of Deer, people and dogs themselves, as Deer are aggressive and can attack if provoked.
Due to the rough terrains, and potential need for brisk walk (moving away from any rutting stags), and end point being 2 hours away from exits, we regret that unless you are able to keep up, we can not provide special attention, or accommodate anyone with walking or other disabilities. We are very sorry for this.
What to wear:
Pleeeeeeeese! Please wear absolutely warm and sensible cloths/ coats/ rain proof/ boots etc!! It may start out sunny and hot but it gets cold quickly.. There’ll be midges and insects.. so cover up ankles with socks.. wear trainers or boots…(No slippers). You feel hardy.. but when you start shivering or feel uncomfortable inside ..it still shows and makes rest of the people feel uneasy. This is not a survival walk with Bear Grylls.. It’s an enjoyable comfortable magical social walk with csy pagans!! 🙂
What to bring?
Obviously we’ll be walking for few hours with breaks inbetween. So only carry essentials, and low weight items.. or you’ll get tired and won’t enjoy the event. Pretend you are the Fellowship of the Ring.. chasing Orks 🙂
That said.. do bring some of these for your own enjoyment:
- -Camera to take pictures of rutting Stags (from safe distance)
- -Hot flash of drinks for yourself
- -small ground sheet / blanket to sit on (optional)
- -Some food & drinks (extra if you feel like sharing)
- – any magical items you like to carry with you safely and discretely (no big swords)
- – walking stick (optional but helps) – note: this is an additional aid for those with No walking disabilities.
- -Torch light ( for later if staying in the evening).
- -insect repellant sprays (optional)
- – lantern (optional for later)
- – carving/ craft knife (optional for wand making).
Mani (facilitator) will provide some ground sheet, bring small craft knives. and a minimum ritual tool kit for doing a small ceremony later. But he’ll also be wanting to travel light and might need to run away from Oarks..or rutting Stags (as has happened before)!
Rutting stags are fiercely territorial and will be gloating their own powers against other stags. The key thing is to stay out of their way.. Never accidentally get in between 2 or more rutting stags ! They don’t care much about humans…but in their aggressive states, they may not tell differences between a human and a stag-threat and may get chasing you. (as it had happened to me once!)
Another matter is to be less intrusive..and not spook them. After all Richmond park is a wild life sanctuary for them.
If you are not comfortable working safely with a craft knife, please refrain from doing so. Some can be sharp and cut deep, if not careful. We’ll have small plasters ..that’s about it.
Obviously we’ll be going in search of the Deers/ stags…and it’s highly likely we’ll bump into their territories sooner or later.. But we have no control of the wild animals..and sometimes they migrate to far away sections of the park.
Bright Blessings . `May Hern protect us’

Join us on Halloween Night in Central London on Monday …31st October 2018.. We gather for a fun-filled Halloween walk ..with costumes * lanterns, then stop near Oxo tower (green area) for our annual `Thames: River of Souls Ceremony’ to honour the Spirit of Thames & Ancestors.
As for last year, We begin with a procession along river Thames (from outside the Globe Theatre, and walk along bankside, past Tate Modern, Blackfriars Bridge, Oxo Tower, Gabriel’s Wharf, and end at Royal Festival Hall… for a break and social (free to get inside and use their cafe/ seating areas).
Bring snacks & drinks to share.
Bring pumpkins. Lanterns (no naked flames please for safety). Bring battery operated lights.. costumes.. masks etc.
Our ceremonies are open to everyone, of all paths and religions.
Stay as long as you like.. and leave when you want to.
Fees: suggested donation £3 to the `Ferryman’ (for your underworld journey)
Meeting point/ time:
Please get to outside steps of Shakespear’s Globe Theatre / Bankside pier by 7.30pm. We’ll get organised and begin walk. We hope the 1000m walk will only take us about 1 hour at an extremely leisurely procession/ festive walking speed. 🙂
Cloths/what to bring:
-Wear warm/ waterproof comfortable cloths… Please check weather for London for friday evening and dress appropriate. Wear good footwear..as standing/ walking for longer duration can get hard on the feet.
-Please bring small picnic-style food and drinks to share.
-Bring things for self.. and if feeling generous, something to share with others..
Safety notes: Everyone is asked to take extra care with their own personal safety as we’ll be in a busy public place. Keep valuables with you at all times.. or with a trusted friend who is not playing a big role in ritual. beware of thieves/ pickpockets, any silly protesters (who don’t like pagans) and may try to cause a wrangle. If this happens..just step away from it.. do not be baited.. and just get out asap…and get far away to a safer place.
No swords…no athames..or other `real’ weapons – or anything that might alarm the general public /police. We play safe and nice.. And you are responsible for your own good behaviour and health & safety!!
With bright blessings

Hi all.. Am organizing the following seasonal festivities in the woods as usual. Just click the links/ pictures to visit the relevant events under my `London woodland witches’ meetup events. Bright Blessings. -Mani
Last night, I had to pleasure and privilege to be there for a talk by Shani Oates at Nova Stellar! `Nova Stellar presents..’ is a monthly gathering where newcomers to Paganism & Wicca can attend, gather, socialise and listen to Intro talks/ Life journeys by now famous and well known Pagan authors, speakers, ritualists, magicians and public figures.
The event blurb gives the following info about her:
“Shani is an occultist, mystic, Luciferian Pilgrim of the Forbidden Arts, Traditional Craft practitioner, researcher, historian and writer of the Craft, magic, ancestral tradition – particularly the Robert Cochrane Tradition – and the cultural folklore and folk-magicks of the UK and its Northern Heritage.
She is Spae-wife and Matriarch of The People of Goda, The Clan of Tubal Cain and a student of anthropology, Tantra, philosophy and the arcane ‘Other.’
She is also the author of several books that write informatively on the myths, gods and archetypes that imbue and inform the Cults and Crafts of Witchcraft and Folk-Traditions, shifting through the arcane to modern times.
Her written works include: ‘Tubelo’s Green Fire’, ‘The Arcane Veil’, ‘Star-Crossed Serpent’ (Volumes I-IV), ‘The People of Goda’, ‘The Robert Cochrane Tradition: CTC: Tubal’s Mill’ (revised edition – 2018), ‘A Paean for Hekate’ , ‘Crafting the Arte of Tradition’ and ‘The Devil’s Supper’ .
Her numerous articles in other Craft anthologies, periodicals and magazines over the last two decades include: ‘Pillars II: The Ebon Kteis’, ‘Scalding of Sapientia’, ‘Heritage’ A Clan of Tubal Cain Anthology’, ‘Genuine Witchcraft is explained: Secret Tradition of the Royal Windsor Coven and The Regency’, ‘Serpent Songs’, ‘The Wanton Green’, ‘The Silver Wheel’ and ‘Ancestors of the Craft’
I realised that Shani Oates holds the official position of Matriarch (Maid) in the Cochrane Tradition of (traditional) Wicca/ Witchcraft – and was the one to pass the responsibilities/ energies from the previous Magister to the present one.. So this talk by Shani was very informative …not lest because she is closer to the source but is one of the source! and on some levels, some of what she spoke about (re: Robert Cochrane and some practises of the Cochrane Craft) was quite earth shattering for me on a personal level!
Until now I had only had hearsay and scraps of info about the late Robert Cochrane and Cochrane witchcraft. Shani talked in good details about much of it. And I asked several questions that had puzzled me for ages, such as the position of the Magister (and learnt that at any time..there is only one for the entire Clan. ( he was also at the talk, but kept humbly quiet as it was not his talk.. But I spoke to him briefly afterwards, especially on some awkward political matters that I had heard about in the London Cochrane craft community’ – which turns out to be not connected to the legitimate members of the Clan after all.. (straight from the mouth of the current real Magister of the Cochrane Craft clan!!)
In the talk’s Question time, I posed some questions to Shani.. on any possible old magical working connections between Gardnerians (my lineage) and Robert Cochrane/line. It was useful to learn that Doreen Valiente – mother of modern Wicca (Gardner’s HPS) had been invited by Cochrane to go and work with him/ them at some point… but no other official or formal workings/ partnerships or any initiatory connections exist. These put to rest many gaps and concerns I have had in my mind for many years… and I am relieved, to say the least, and excited by some similarities I have with my own evolving organic practise of Open rituals I facilitate at Queen’s Woods. . (For my personal record I took a photo with Shani – private for now – and perhaps one for my Biography).
There were references to the Regency group that spun out from some members who had worked with Cochrane. I was interested in the Queen’s Woods connection, where I have been holding my own `London Woodland Witches Pagans & Ritual Magicians’ meetup events for over 4 years (and other open rituals there for even longer).
Always grateful to learn new things of the Craft and this has given me much to mull over..
Gardnerian Wiccan High Priest
ps. Shani was kind enough to correct some errors in some of the matters I had written (I’ve deleted 2 sentences). She provided the following via facebook message:
“There have been four Magisters of the Clan of Tubal Cain, but several others of the actual Tradition itself prior to Robert Cochrane. The image depicts Robert Cochrane, Evan John Jones, Robin-the-Dart and Ulric Goding., three I have known personally, and one to whom I was linked to through Evan John Jones. Two of later leaders of the Regency circa 1969 had once been in Cochrane’s Clan, but left just before his death in 1966. After 1969, those two were responsible for the outdoor rituals that many associate with the Regency – these were held in Queenswood. Cochrane, the Clan and the early Regency never worked there. ” – Shani Oates (via FB)
