Okay so here is the `astrological positions’ of the 5 planets that are `visually’ lining up (2nd graphics shows the line-up.. Remember the vast space between East and West…and so this is spread across almost half the sky!
I keep seeing fancy graphics of beautiful planets all lined up over Pyramids and such.. It displeases me when social media sexes-up astrology… or astronomy. Reality is not so.. It’s hard to see all of the planets ..just little white dots… even on a clear sky. I would not like people to get seduced by all this glamorizing of what they might see..and go out and find it not so.
So here’s the charts (basic) showing positions (signs) where these planets are tonight, and a graphics I screen captured to show visually what it might look like at around 6.30am.. (London, gmt)
They sort of spreads across a third of the sky.. in an arc…visually. They **do not** line up astrologically .. Jupiter is in Virgo, Mars in Scorpio, Saturn & Venus in Sagittarius..and if you can seen it….Mercury is in Capricorn.. (so is Pluto..but can’t see it …need a Telescope!). So you see..many are not in the same sign.. It’s a kind of visual line up.. Good light show…but no astrological significance.
Go out and actually look up.. Jupiter is up almost all night.. and quite a bit away to the left of it..is mars..and further left is Saturn & Venus…not so visible till 5am…and Mercury will be rising by the horizon… But then Sun comes up and brightens horizon so much all of them more or less disappear ..(around 6.50am..when all planets will be above Horizon..and visible.. for a short while.. )
Here are the full astrological charts & planetary positions for the upcoming 2 Eclipses (13th Sept & 28th sept). Also below are scientific diagrams / data created by Fred Espanak of NASA.
Bright Stellar Wishes
ps. If you are interested in doing magical work (Eclipse Magic) leading up to or on one of these Eclipses, you can purchase my Book `Eclipse Magic Workbook’ (published in 2012). Usual price £12. Special offer £3.99 till 13th sept’15. Visit http://www.EclipseMagic.co.uk
Some photos of the waxing Moon (taken last night on 28th June’15) and Jupiter almost conjunct Venus (taken this evening 29th June’15). I will try to take photos of the Jupiter-Venus conjunction over the next few days (wish us astro-photographers clear skies). 🙂 -Mani Navasothy
I am shocked to see this `supermoon at Solar Eclipse’ hype spreading so much on the internet..! Propagated by ill-informed people.. A fine example for mindless `passing/ sharing’ ..!!
So can I just knock this idiocy on the bollocks once and for all?
How can it be Supermoon (which is referred to at a Full Moon that’s quite larger) at the time of any Solar Eclipse? Has everyone gone crazy?
Solar eclipses take place when moon covers the sun.. that’s always going to be a Dark Moon/ New moon!
By the way, we do have a Eclipse / Supermoon combination..but it’s much later in the year on 28th September’`15 …at the NEXT *Lunar* Eclipse.
How do I know this date? well, I worked it out.. using dates of full moons…and coinciding dates when Moon is closer to Earth (perigee)! (Am a Physicist and an Astrologer, remember? Now you know why this blog is called QuantumPhoenic. It has scientific and esoteric parts ) 🙂
So please…don’t just take everything you see in social media for granted.. Double check things..
And if I am severely wrong..(and that has happened too, when I once drew the direction of Earth orbit incorrectly)…please set me right…with clear facts…not hissy fits (that’s happened too..when someone ranted regarding my `CyberGod/ visionary art’ blog post ).
Hi all, there is a Total Lunar Eclipse coming up on 4th April 2015. (which is two weeks after the total Solar Eclipse of 20/3/15).
Note on Magical works & interpretations: Am adding essential graphics (astronomy data & visibility map) .. Readers will note that I tend to create / present data and graphics that are of practical use, either for observation, or for the purpose of doing your own esoteric/ personal magical work during the times of these eclipses. (In these cases, I try to avoid giving any/ extensive interpretations, as that `taints’ the reader’s subconscious. Eclipses are powerful enough ..and I have been personally doing `Eclipse Magic’ for so long.. that I prefer to let the magical potential of the eclipses be tuned int by interested readers/ magical practitioners (Astro-mages, High Magicians and so on..). There are plenty of other blogs/ sites who give extensive interpretations..
Okay, back to this Eclipse…
Effectively, you can start to actually see the Moon beginning to be eclipsed (dark patch shows and and spreads) from 10:15am…and it will end by 1:44pm (Gmt). Some where in the middle of this (3 hr 29 min period), we get the Total Eclipse of the moon – between 11:57am to 12:02pm (gmt)… for duration of 4 mins 43sec.
But of course, Moon will be entering the penumbral shadow of the Earth long before it actually becomes noticeable to naked eye (at 9.01am) and it only leaves this penumbral shadow at 4.58pm. (this part of it is of scientific interest ..and dare I say `magical’ interest only.. as it is not discernable to naked eye..
P1:First penumbral contact occurs when the Moon first enters Earth’s penumbra,
U1: First umbral contact marks when the Moon is first shadowed by Earth’s darker umbra.
U2: Second umbral contact takes place at the beginning of totality, when the Moon is fully eclipsed by the Earth’s umbra,
U3: Third umbral contact occurs at totality’s end.
U4: Last umbral contact marks when the Moon completely leaves Earth’s umbra,
P2: Second penumbral contact occurs when the Moon leaves the penumbra.
Note: Partial lunar eclipses do not have U2 and U3 values, since those are reserved for when the Moon fully enters the Earth’s umbra. Rather, contact times for partial lunar eclipse are designated only P1, U1, U4, P2 respectively.
Astrology: Planetary positions for this Eclipse (at 12:06hrs gmt)
The next set of Eclipses occur later in the year, a partial Solar Eclipse on 13th September’15 (in the sign of Virgo) , and a Total Lunar Eclipse on 28th Sept’15 (in the sign of Aries). I will of course cover full data/ presentations & preparations for those in a few months time.. (let’s live through this one first 🙂
People get excited about Eclipses – only when they can actually see them! Otherwise these wonderful stellar Events just pass many people by – it just happens `somewhere else’ (ie visible in another part of the world, but not where `you’ live). But for astronomers & astrologers, no matter where they are and where the actual eclipses are visible from- it’s always of great interest and importance. And me? I am both an amateur astronomer and a full on astrologer. Here in England, it’s hard to plan observing one (safety in mind!) because of unexpected clouds and rain..but i have always marked them on my diary and always taken the opportunity to do personal spiritual & magical work. (I wrote a book some years ago, called `Eclipse Magic Workbook’ it’s on kindle for sale and on my own websites! See links below)
I see that the internet and social media is beginning to saturate already .with lovely *fantasmagraphical..graphics and such. So many of them are so very inaccurate. Astronomers would cringe..and erm..so would astrologers.
So as usual, I have spent a great deal of time either creating or compiling the useful data for the upcoming Solar Eclipse of 20th Match 2015. It’s visible from UK (over 90%).
Here are all the useful stuff
Astrology / Planetary chart for Solar Eclipse 20th March 2015
This is drawn for exactly 9.45am Universal Time (pretty much same as GMT)..and uses just sun signs only (no house positions shown as that depends on geography). But for those interested, if a Placidus chart is drawn for this event, using coordinates of where greatest Eclipse is visible (Lat 64′ N; Long 6’W), then Ascendant is in Cancer, and Midheaven is in Aquarius).
NASA diagram with full astronomical data
Earth enters the Umbra of the Lunar shadow at 9.09am (UT)..
Greatest Eclipse of the Sun occurs at 9.45am (UT).
Earth leaves the umbral shadow at 10:21am (UT).
The duration of greatest eclipse is 2 min 46 seconds!!
Where is this visible?
This is visible from Iceland, Europe, N.Africa, N.Asia .
Total Eclipse is visible from N.Atlantic, Faeroe Is, Svalbard.
I’ll be uploading some video-graphics I found and edited together, showing actual visibility (where this eclipse can be seen from) in another blog post, as well as to my youtube channel, and my `Eclipse Magic’ facebook page
Can be seen just after sunset, in the West-North-West sky (in the constellation of Gemini)
2. Meteor Shower
On 11th June. High in SouthEast sky around 4.30am. You can see the rare `Gamma Delphinids’ meteo shower (close to Aquila and Capricornids..is a small constellation called Delphinus).
3. Four major Asteroids
Ceres, Pallas, Vesta & Juno are the first 4 asteroids to have been discovered. All are visible this month. Ceres & Pallas near Gemini, Juno near Aquarius.
4. Asteroid 1998 QE2
This one passed by Earth not so long ago – on 31st May 2013! A medium-large telescope is needed now to see it. Look south after 9pm..in the Constellations of Libra & Ophiucus.
5. Milky Way
By the end of June, Moon is rising very late, by midnight, so that gives plenty of evening / early night time to look at the night sky..and without the bright light of gthe moon, parts of our galaxy Milk Way can be seen.. (as a fine dust of stars in bands that are obvious to miss. I saw this some years ago and was amazed!)
Here’s a photo I just took of the South-Western sky (from London)- Today’s day 30th November 2012 – at 02:58hrs gmt.
It shows the post-full moon (over exposed and causing a lense flare!)…and to the right of the moon, the brightest spot is planet Jupiter.
And to the lower left of the moon is Orion the Hunter…you can clearly see his belt!
It’s an average digital camera I used.. I set it in a tripod and set on manual mode (so it takes as long as it takes for an exposure..and t took a good 5 second exposure – hence the dark sky looks almost day-light…due to over exposure.. from moon light and light pollution of course!) Oh,to avoid hand-shake of camera, I also set the timer for 2 seconds..pressed the button and waited.. (3mega pix settting).
I love winter – skies are almost clearer, and the stars and planet-watch can begin again (okay so a bit cold..but wrap up warm and have a flask of coffee with ya..). And today is a brilliant one..!
Lunar Occultation of a planet is when the moon covers over a planet that is behind it.
This is no different to a Solar Eclipse, when the (new) moon covers the Sun behind it..
Interestingly, earlier today we had a penumbral lunar eclipse (full moon in gemini was partially covered by the shadow of the earth..) It took place at 14:34hrs gmt and could not been seen in UK.. but this night…(well, 29th Nov as it will be past midnight).. the full moon moves over the planet Jupiter at about 01:04hrs gmt.
I have just been in the garden taking photos by an ordinary digital camera, and as you can see, the full moon is edging closer to the planet Jupiter (that’s the white spot on the left of the full moon!)
Those of you doing eclipse magical work.. this day is a spectacular double whammy – because not only do you get a Lunar Eclipse, but now a `Jupiter eclipse’
get out there now.. as you have time to look at it.. 🙂
The clouds are moving fast.. so even if it’s cloudy, keep watching… 🙂
ps. hey, the whole thing `looks’ like it’s happening right above my room 🙂 That’s my room lights you see in the photo.
pps. There is one more Lunar Occultation of Jupiter left for this year..and it takes place on 26th December’12- exactly 2 days before a cancer-full moon! I bet Christmas is going to be a very jovial, bubbly wonderful time.. !
