Here’s a quick infographics on the major Lunar Phenomena coming up in 2019. It includes *Astrological Blue moon (2 consecutive full moons in same sign), Traditional *Indigo moon (2 new moons in same month), and of course the eclipses. I’ll say more on these later. Book mark and come back to this blog again.
The LBRP – Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram – is a ceremonial piece of magic performed at the start of any major magical work. It’s aim is to clear / banish *all* energies from a particular working space – so that the magician can then create sacred space, consecrations, and fill the space with energy of their own – for invoking Deities or angels or other works.

The following extensive notes with stage-by-stage graphics showing what happens and what to visualise – was provided by me to my Students, after running this as part of a Woodland High Magic workshop in May/June of 2018. I am now making this available freely to all in my blog http://www.QuantumPhoenix.net.
LBRP takes place in 5 stages
1. Grounding & Reaching to Deity –
2. Kabbalistic Cross –
3. Banishing Pentagrams & Circle–
4. Calling 4 Archangels at Quarters for Protection.
5. Kabbalistic Cross (again).
1. Grounding & Reaching to Deity –
this involves visualisation that your feet is firmly grounded on Earth. You draw on Earth energy to `grow’ and become larger than known Universe, until you can see the Divine light in distance in the void beyond all universe.
2. Kabbalistic Cross –
This is where you praise and honour the supreme Deity (God) and draw the divine light into your self.. Imagine a brilliant white light descending. ..first down into your forehead (saying ATEH meaning `thou art’.
Visualise this light now flowing down through your body and all the way to Infinity ..below you!. Saying the words MALKUTH – meaning `the Kingdom’).
You then draw energy from the centre and project it through you all the way to the right, saying the words VE-GEBURAG, meaning `and the Power’;
You do the same for the left, saying VE-GEDULAH, meaning, `and the Glory’. This forms a beam of divine light going from the central bean to infinity in both right and left directions.
Finally, saying, LE-OLAM meaning `forever’ you project a beam of divine light from all the way to infinity in front of you, and also project a beam all the way to infinity behind you.
You bring hands into praying posture saying `AMEN’ meaning `So be it’.
Thus you are standing in the centre with 6 beams of divine light.
3. Banishing Pentagrams & Circle:
You then drawn energy from the light beams within, and conjure flaming blue pentagrams in 4 Directions..
You begin in the East, and vibrating a God name YOD HE VAU HE to charge the pentagram. This is an Earth-banishing pentagram. This is pushed out in the East …as it clears all energies in that direction.
You then draw a quarter of a circle, from East to South.
Facing South, you conjure 2nd flaming pentagram, and energise it with another God Name This pentagram is then pushed out to infinity in the Southern direction, clearing all energies.
You now draw another quarter-circle, from South to West.
Facing West, you conjure 3rd flaming pentagram, and energise it with another God Name EHEIEH. This pentagram is then pushed out to infinity in the Western direction, clearing all energies.
You now draw another quarter-circle, from West to North.
Facing North , you conjure 4th flaming pentagram, and energise it with another God Name AGLA. This pentagram is then pushed out to infinity in the Northern direction, clearing all energies.
Finally, You complete another quarter-circle, from North to East.
4. Calling 4 Archangels at Quarters for Protection:
As you have completed the circle, along with 4 banishing pentagrams, you will now be standing in the centre – facing East. Calling all angels takes place while you still face East..
You visualise the Archangel Raphael in the East in front of you.
Say, `Before me, Raphael’, then call out his name
Now feel the presence of Gabriel behind you (in the West).. Remember you are still facing forward to East.
Say `Behind me, Gabriel and call out the name Gabriel.
Now just turn only your head towards your right ..which is the direction South. Visualise Michael. Call out his name
Last but not least, turn your head to your left (the direction of North) and visualise Uriel. Call out the name
Take a moment to visualise clearly the 4 Archangels in the 4 directions.. guarding those directions in the circle. Make sure to honour and welcome them.
5. Full Circle & Kabbalistic Cross repeated:
You now acknowledge the whole magical working as a reminder, by saying,
“Around me flames the pentagrams. And within me / behind shines the six-rayed star”
You now perform the Kabbalistic Cross again – as you are now in a purified and protected space. Begin with divine light above, drawing in down into body, projecting it to right and left and beams, and projecting it forward and back.

If you do an internet search for the Archangel names, firstly many variations come up, and second, you’ll see a whole lot of shops selling talismans & pendants with all sorts of symbols and sigils, with a mixture of Hebrew writing included and all sorts of squiggles.
The question is, how far do you trust them? How accurate do you think those sigils are – and how do you even test to ensure they are accurate? (unless you are already an expert at those matters).
Am not saying anyone out there is deliberately trying to mislead anyone. But my own extensive internet (and hard printed books) searches have shown me that there’s a lot of smudging and confusion in this matter… People are sometimes just copying one another’s websites/ blogs or info..and the mistakes/ misinformation is either spreading or getting amplified (like Chinese whispers).
There are worlds, realms and beings out there – magical, etherial and the supernatural – that are best left alone. Because once you disturb them, or open a door to their realms, or if they happen to disturb you.. life is *never* going to be the same.
Years ago, I had dabbled…all so briefly..with some sigils.. just playful.. for a day or so.. and the psychic reaction I got from that was so shocking and intense, that it scared me. I erased all traces of that experiment..and put it away for years! Until last year! When I had cause to open it up again.. But this time it’s different. I’m being extremely careful.. and double..triple checking every detail..
It started as a personal need to know what I can trust ..and then it became an interest…and then it became a promise.. that what I know I must share with others.. Because there are those amongst you.. who are seeking.. out of curiosity, interest or worse…desperation..!
That’s why this is being written.. To help those who are seeking.
Is it my place to help? Do I know enough to help? Possibly No..for both questions. But I have a new philosophy that I have been living by now..for almost half a year.. If you are working with Angels, how ever small or large an involvement, you have to live by some high ideals and standards.. There is no faking it…or suppressing it or denying it.. They will know. So you have to simply start being it…your best self.. your noble self.. your angelic self!
So with those disclaimers / warnings in mind, let’s begin.
1. The Rose Wheel
I won’t go into the full history or detail of it.. You can look it up on wikipedia .. or the `Golden Dawn’ (for first hand knowledge/ reading). I will say this.. if you don’t know it,, and you were looking for it …it will have been one hard journey. Information online is fragmented..and bits seem to be kept apart.
I eventually found it…and suddenly it all made sense.. So am writing about it first..(so that it saves you the trouble). It’s a key that practitioners of `Golden Dawn’ western magical tradition used in their ceremonies, rituals and magical work.
I have re-created only the central section here. Not only that, I have also combined the Hebrew letters/ sounds that match the english letters/ sounds as near as possible..
2. Arch Angel names
Am only referring to the four Archangels used in the `Ritual of the lesser banishing of the Pentagram’ – mainly, Raphael, Michael, Gabriel and Uriel… for East, South, West and North directions respectively.
These names were originally said in Hebrew, and were written in that langage. So their pronounciations are slightly different.I have gone back to the Hebrew forms (given in example)..
3. How to write Archangelnames in sigil form
Start by writing the specific name in Hebrew (or find a hebrew version online!). Remember Hebrew is written from right to left..
Then Take out a pre-drawn Rose Wheel. Yes, you’ll need one. And above I ave provided one version. Just print it off, orr copy it using geometric accuracy..or view it enlarged, stick a paper on your screen, and trace over it carefully (don’t press too hard and end up damaging the screen.. so be very careful)
Mark out the letters of the name on the Rose Wheel.
Now in sequence, trace over the letters, thereby drawing the sigil of the Archangel name.
Here are fully illustrated examples I have created.
With these 4 examples, and the Rose Wheel diagram above, you now have the tools and techniques to start creating sigils of other Arch Angel and Angel names in sigil forms..
How many initiated Wiccans or otherwise, have been using the so called `invocation and devocation’ pentagrams in wiccan/ witchcraft or magical circles? Quite many thousands, I imagine. Back in my early `initiate/ first degree’ days (almost 2 decades ago now), I was taught those invocation pentagrams, and used them (still do) when standing in one of the quarters (North, East, South or West) and calling a respective element (Earth, Air, Fire or Water).
To be honest, it was hard trying to remember which way to `draw’ those pentagrams, as they differed for each quarter/element. One easy solution was taught to me – that for Air and Water (East and West), one started drawing the pentagrams `towards’ the altar. But for Earth and Fire, this was not possible..
Well, last year, while talking about this in a shamanic ritual, I was doing a fire invocation pentagram with an actual flaming torch (outdoors, in the woods).. and explaining it to someone. An astrology friend said, `well, you know why don’t you? it’s because Leo is there!’. That’s all he said, and that’s all he needed to say. In a flash the whole thing clicked in my head, as I worked / visualised the related images. And as soon as I got home I drew it all up and looked at it to make sure – and then wondered – `why on earth had no one told me about this in my old coven days? and why have I not read about this full explanation for some 15-20 years?’
And I resolved to share what I had learnt/ worked out openly. hence this blog post. (but even this took me months to get down and actually do.. because of my laziness of having to sit and do all that explanation *fully*).
It’s not just this stuff that is lurking in my mind as one of many `do blogs’ ..There are plenty more magical things I have learnt, worked out, reverse engineered or just created by trial and errors or experimentations (magical).. that require sharing.
This morning, I woke up and had (out of the blue) just one thought.. that my subconscious had surfaced.. and it was.. to begin that sharing!
(ps. I had since then learnt, some of this stuff comes from or practised by the `Golden Dawn’ western magical tradition practitioners).
So here it is..the full explanation…starting with astrology.. (there are still some questions..which I will pose and hope someone can answer).
1. The 3-Dimensional view of our Earth & the Sun.
Above is a graphical representation of what the Earth & Sun will look like, if viewed from space, from a point of vie `above’ the plane of the ecliptic (ie the orbital plane of planet Earth around the Sun). As you can see, the Zodiac signs are star systems far away, but they can be `projected’ onto a sheet in each of the 12 directions where those systems exist.
2. Making Earth the Centre.
In astrology, we draw charts of the Sky, as if they are seen from the Earth. So Earth is placed in the centre. You can see from above graphics, how – slightly shifting the Sun-Earth pair gives rise to this. And because the zodiac systems are so far away in relative terms to the Sun-Earth distance, the view of them do not change. In this graphics, watched from the Earth, the Sun will appear to be set against the Zodiac sign of Aries. (ie Sun in Aries).
3. Astrological Chart – a graphical representation of the Sky
In the pic above, I have `got rid of’ the details and 3-dimensional elements, and only left-in the Earth, Sun and the positions / directions where Zodiacs are. This is a `view from the `top’ (above the Ecliptic plane). And this is what it means when we see or draw an astrology Birth chart. Note: The fist sign of the Zodiac – Aries- is drawn in the `rising sign’ position at Spring Equinox.
Note: This is the starting point now, for the invocation pentagrams!
4. Elements and Fixed nature of Zodiac signs
In astrology, each sign of the Zodiac is assigned one of the 4 elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth). I’ve grouped and shown these in the 4 corners of the diagram. (not in any order or direction). In astrology, there are qualities that are assigned to signs. The qualities are Cardinal, Mutable and Fixed. I have highlighted the `fixed’ signs.
As you can see, Leo is the fixed Fire sign. Taurus is the fixed Earth sign, Aquarius the fixed Air, and Scorpio the fixed Water sign. Note that I kept their positions in the astrological chart.
here on it gets easy to do the invocation pentagrams.
5. Fire invocation Pentagram using astrological chart
The fire invocation pentagram is drawn, by starting the first arm of the pentagram from the `midheaven’ position, and `into’ Leo, the fixed Fire sign, thereby activating the element of fire. The pentagram is then completed by carrying on the other 4 arms of it as shown in diagram above.
6. Earth invocation Pentagram using astrological chart
Here, for the invocation of Earth energy, we start from the same (midheaven) position,, then drawn the first arm of the invoking pentagram `into’ Taurus, the fixed Earth sign.
7. Air invocation Pentagram using astrological chart
For the Air invocation pentagram, the first arm of the pentagram is drawn such that it `enters’ the fixed sign of Air..ie Aquarius (as shown above).
8. Water invocation Pentagram using astrological chart
The first arm for the water invoking pentagram is drawn such that it enters the fixed water sign, ie Scorpio.
Note: I have shown these (Fire, Earth, Air water) `not in the order’ of invocation, but in a way that initially shows you the symmetry of them.
Of course in Wicca / Witchcraft circles, the order of invocation, is
I hope you found these full visuals useful and finally can see why the invocation pentagrams are drawn the way they are done. It is purely based on astrological convention of drawing the chart, relative zodiac positions on that chart, and where on that chart the fixed signs for each of the elements are situated.
The most important thing to have in mind is that it’s all just `conventions’ created by a magical system, and that in space there are only relative positions… there are no ups, downs left and rights; And that in magic, you – as the practitioner who is exercising the Will- has the choice and say in how and what you do!

Am happy for anyone to share this on social media/ reblog above blog, provided copyright note (c) Mani Navasothy / http://www.QuantumPhoenix.net remains. No publication of these graphics in any book /course / training allowed without express written (and magical) permission from myself. Thank you.
Maha Shivarathri (Shiva’s night) is one of the sacred Hindu religious days.
Shivarathri nights for coming years:
Friday 24th February 2017;
Tuesday 13th February 2018;
Monday 4th March 2019;
Friday 21st February 2020
Although I did not stay awake all night in prayers and worship, I began magical workings the night before on my altar – and continued some personal prayers and a sacred ritual last night (midnight onwards). Am writing this with the hope that reading about it may give some of you spiritual inspiration – to either do similar ceremonies, or create your own rituals.
Though I have lived in London for over 25 years, my first 15 years of childhood & teen life was in Sri Lanka, where I had attended hundreds of temples and watched or participated in numerous Hindu rituals, as well as read and self-taught all of the Hindu mythologies and Stories (Puranams). It is those that continue to give me my core values – of spirituality, upon which many layers of Western magical practices have been built on in the past 25 years.
The following is a set of suggestions stemming from my own hindu rituals.
Preparing the Candle:
My work began with purchasing a brand new tall Pillar (white) candle. The one I got is a 70 hour candle. I then took it to the local Temple, where (in London) Shivarahri ceremonies were going on already. Hindus are used to lighting lamps, so am sure the devotees would have been a bit perplexed, so I had the candle in a ruck sack and carried it mindfully on my back, as I prayed and circled the temple’s inner altar 3 times. The purpose of taking the candle to the temples is to consecrate it and bless it with the pure and divine energies.
If you are unable to do this, you can alternatively – take the candle to a place of nature that is untainted and pure.. and have it there, for a short while and ask natural energies and divine forces to bless it. I would advise that you do NOT do any complicated rituals of blessing this candle. Do not inscribe any complex symbols either. All that is needed is true simplicity and natural or divine energy by way of it’s own presence.
Once the Candle has been blessed and brought home to your intended Altar, the altar itself needs preparing. Now I have in the past made a huge fuss about getting the altar perfectly right, and purifying it etc. But this time whatever the state your altar is does not matter. It is every day life and ways of living that (may) have brought about a certain way your altar looks (dusty? cluttered with magical items unused? objects that detract instead of adding positive energy? etc). As we are about to deal with Shiva – an important deity who – as long as you honour and worship him whole heartedly – forgives and blesses you,.., you need only make a heartfelt genuine effort and just carry out this ritual.. Purity of intention is more important (for this and any ritual, in fact).
Tidy the altar and make space for the candle. If you have a Shiva statue or art work, place that in a central or prominent position. If you have any long `phallic’ style crystals that can `stand up’ – do place them (or a main one) on the altar. This will come to represent the `Shivalingham’ – which in fact is a representative of the sacred union of the Phallus and the Yoni (it is found in most Hindu temple altars!) Do wash the crystal beorehand and place on altar.
Flowers, a glass of water, small glass of milk, honey, fruits are also appropriate to have. Incense sticks and of course small tea-light candles are great additions…and a small bell, if you have one.
Ceremony of Shiva’s Flame
Remember the mantra `Om Shivaya Nama’ or the variation, `Om Nama Shivaya’. This is something you can chant either out loud, while ringing the bell at certain points. Or you may chant the mantra inwardly and quietly (as I did last night, as other people in the house were sleeping by midnight!). Again, true worship and devotion with purity of such intent carries the ritual more so than the actual steps! (Remember the story of the King and the Devotee whop both built a temple each for Shiva – one a large temple and other an astral temple in the mind, to which Shiva gave impirtance…It is one of the Hindu religious stories (Puranams)) It is mentioned in detail in my other Shivarathri blog.
Light the central candle as you chant the mantra, while visualising the great flame that is Shiva. Recall the story of the great flame, that has no beginning or end, no top or bottom, which Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu attempted to discover).
You may wish to light additional small tea-light candles around the central candle.
Be seated in front of your altar ( dark room is best), and stay in a meditative state, while chanting Shiva’s mantra. You may wish to offer flowers to the candle, and or the Shiva statue (or picture), by peeling petals and gently showering the statue / artwork with them. If your statue is water-proof, and is prepared to stand in a water proof dish or deeper container, you may also wish to perform an `Abishekam’ (ritual bathing) – with water, milk, honey etc [I shall write about this another time, in detail].
There are a number of visualisations and divine aspects you can focus on while in meditative state
The cosmic dance of Shiva – where he is all creation (planets, stars, galaxies) – He Destroys and re-creates all things
The Great Flame of Shiva – that is infinite and has no ends and stretches through all of space.
The Shivalingham – a long phallic object that is embedded in the circular base that is the divine Yoni (female Vulva symbol)
During the Flame meditation, you may wish to hold the candle by both hands in front of you – at just below Chest level, so that the candle flame itself is on level with your Solar Plexis Chakra (the point at which on chest area ribs join – the mystical place where Sun energy is said to reside). You may carefully try to imbue your Solar Plexis chakra with the Shiva-Candle-Flame, while chanting Shiva mantra, as a way of communing with Shiva’s flame. (Warning: should this become uncomfortable – a sit may if you have never done t before – use a large Crystal or stone or some soil or salt in your hands, to ground that energy, and – try the exercise another time, gently!).
It is advisable to stay in the chanting & meditative state for a long period – That is the very nature of this Ceremony – prayer, worship and simple but pure communing with Lord Shiva.
What to pray for
The removal of bad or negative Karma that your life has accumulated.
The release from the eternal loop of birth, death, reincarnation, and so on..
Spiritual purity (aspiration of it).
Healing of old emotional wounds.
Well-being of close families and those you care deeply for.
You may wish, after the prayer / meditative session has reached a conclusion, to hold the central candle in hands (raise slightly so the flame is at heart-level now), and radiate divine energy, healing & unconditional love ..to other people in your life. Do not complicate this stage. Just send pure light & love. Do not try to be specific.
